A Note From Dr. Neubeck A Note From Dr. Neubeck

This week, history was made in Byron Public Schools when we held a presentation on Wednesday evening and a choir/band concert on Thursday in the new auditorium. It was exciting to see the new space being used and I appreciate the many people who came to be a part of the two evenings. The presentation was a documentary, "Screenagers", and spoke to student anxiety and the various things that students say cause them anxiety and stress. The film discussed how parents and kids can work together to combat the effects of anxiety and ways to prevent it. Parents, one of the items that struck me as so important was the idea of making sure you validate your child's feelings of anxiety and stress and don't always try to fix their problems for them by telling them what to do. Just listen, validate, and then be available to them when they ask for help to solve their problems.

The high school choir and band students participated in a musical showcase this week in Stewartville where all choirs and bands received either an Excellent or Superior rating. The students then performed in front of the home crowd on Thursday night. It was great to see so many people come out to hear great music and support our students and staff. Through these performances we were able to work through some bugs as we try to improve with each performance. The next public performance for the auditorium is nationally known public speaker, Joe Schmit. He has been in the Minnesota sports scene for many years as a sports anchor for KSTP news. Joe has written several books and will be talking about one of his latest books, "Silent Impact." I have heard him speak and recommend it for any adult or child who is middle school age or older. This will be a free event and you will find more information below in the Buzz. Don't miss this opportunity.

This week showed that we have a beautiful facility with our new performing arts center and the people of Byron can be proud of the facilities we have created for our students and staff. Thank you again for continued support of our schools.

Speaking of supporting our schools, I also want to inform our community that the Byron School Board approved the selling of bonds for one of our loans that equaled $23,500,000. Our district has a very good bond rating and we had 12 investors bid on our bonding (which shows well for Byron Schools). By doing this, we were able to receive a very low interest rate which in turn saves the taxpayers of Byron $742,000. Again, I can't thank the community enough for their continued support and I hope people know that we will do everything we can to be good stewards of the money we receive

Go Bears!
