Principal’s Message

Hello Knight Families,

It is my distinct honor to introduce to you our 2024 Distinguished Educators Mr. Norman Hassell Sr., Ms. Amy Knight, Mr. Brian Neas, Ms. Keirsten Rodriguez, and Ms. Thalia Serino.

Additionally, Kellam High School’s 2024 Teacher of the Year is Ms. Laura Peters!

We are truly fortunate to have such a strong group of educators at Kellam High School!

This year our focus continues to be on high quality instruction, maintaining an inclusive culture, and preparing our students to be future ready. If you want to learn more about our goals and the strategies we are implementing to achieve these goals click here to see our Plan for Continuous Improvement (PCI) infographic. We’d love to hear your input as a part of the School Planning Council. If you are interested, please reach out to Lisa.Long2@vbschools.com.

Our teachers have been working hard to provide quality tier 1 instruction, reinforce SEL skills, and help students curate work that demonstrates their mastery of skills found in the graduate profile. I would encourage you to ask your student about the work they have curated thus far.

As you may have noticed, we have several staff days and holidays in the month of November. Be sure to review the calendar carefully to ensure your student knows when and when not to report to school. Also, families with seniors should mark your calendar for graduation. We will hold commencement ceremonies at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on June 17, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.

In closing, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all of our veterans and their families who have sacrificed to ensure our freedom. Additionally, I would like to thank the Kellam community for your generosity in supporting the many efforts to supply those less fortunate families with food and supplies during this season of giving.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,

Ryan Schubart
Principal
