10th Grade Newsletter
October 2026
Happy October! As we settle into the school year, our 10th grade Dragons are continuing to grow as students, leaders, and members of our school community. This is an important year as students become more independent, strengthen their academic habits, and begin thinking more intentionally about their goals for the future.
One exciting part of the 10th grade experience is the MYP Personal Project. Each year, our tenth grade students engage in this independent, student-driven project centered around an authentic inquiry of their choice. Personal Project gives students an opportunity to apply their Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, build on prior learning, explore an area of personal interest, and create a meaningful product that demonstrates their growth as lifelong IB learners.
Students are currently developing both a learning goal and a product goal as they begin this journey. Families can support their students by asking about their project ideas, encouraging them to stay organized, and checking in on their progress throughout the year.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us and support your Dragon as they navigate their sophomore year. We are excited to see their ideas, creativity, and growth throughout this school year!
Grade Level Class Updates

Art B
Students are wrapping up their first project, an Identity Name Sculpture. For this assignment, students designed their names in 3D and added drawings and symbols that show who they are, what they enjoy, and things that are important to them. They also learned that sculptures need to look interesting from all sides, since viewers can walk around them and see them from different angles. Students had to think carefully about balance physical and visual) and how to make their sculptures look good from every viewpoint.

Biology
In Biology, we are currently studying ecology and ecosystems using Serengeti National Park as our real-world example. Students are investigating how factors such as rainfall, food availability, energy flow, and limiting factors affect organisms and ecosystems, including the migration of wildebeest. We are also strengthening important science skills such as creating and analyzing graphs, using academic vocabulary, developing models, and writing Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) responses. These activities help students use evidence to explain patterns and make connections between what we learn in class and real-world ecosystems.

World Theatre B
Theatre is nearing the end of our “soft skills” development, and we’re almost done with our first major project of a flower box! Students have been learning to measure, saw, drill, hammer, paint, and soon will plant their tulip bulbs in their finished product! Then we’ll move into our focus study on “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” and begin making/building in prep for the upcoming show!
