Hosford Middle School
January 25, 2026
Dear Families,
We are so proud of the progress students are making. They are caring, reflective and studious. It shows up in hard work they are putting in during class, in the hallways when they help others, or when they make a mistake and they own it and work to fix it. We know this does not happen without love and support from home. Thank you for all you are doing to raise wonderful children. It shows!
Below are screen shots of the growth on the winter Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test. We are working for all students to score in the high or high average range. This assessment helps us see students' areas of strengths and opportunities for growth. You may see your child's scores in Parentvue. If you are interested in a more detailed report, email us. I'll download it for you.
Do you have ideas on how we could better support students in their success? Email me! jliddle@pps.net
Have a wonderful week!

This resource tells what learning activities were assigned in each class. It is a great way to check on assignments with your child. Middle school is a time when students need help developing the routine of reflection and organizing materials. This resource is your support for those conversations.

Dance Volunteers & Track and Field Help Needed!
Dance volunteers needed!
Hosford will be holding its first Valentines Dance and fundraiser on February 13th (more information about the fundraiser to come soon). We are looking for at least 30 parent volunteers to come and lend a hand to make this dance safe and fun for everyone! You would need to show up to Hosford around 3:50 and would leave around 6:30. Jobs vary from food service to hall and dance monitor to photo booth attendant and much more. If you are able and willing, please sign up HERE! You will also need to complete all PPS volunteer requirements. Thank you so much for your help!
Track & Field help needed!
Cleveland Youth Track and Field season is almost upon us! The season starts March 9 and we are looking for a few more coaches. Some of our most dedicated coaches have come from the Hosford and Sellwood communities, and we need help supporting our team of almost 250 kids in a variety of disciplines! If you (or someone you know) love to run, jump, throw, or just wrangle children and are available March 9 - May 9 on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5-6:30 for practices, please contact the program coordinator Meghan Eigo at meigo@pps.net. Thank you so much for supporting our program!
Pencils Needed
We collect them off the floor, charge husky bucks for one in class, but our students are writing through our pencil supply. If you are able and willing to donate some, we'd be so appreciate!
Lunch Detention Starting Wednesday, January 14th
We are working hard at Hosford to instill a sense of accountability for students to arrive to their classes on time! We have started monthly On Time Challenges and Quarterly Reward Tickets as incentives for being on time to class and ready for learning.
Now we will be starting lunch detention this week on Wednesday and Thursday for students that have had 6 or more tardies last week and/or skipped 1 or more classes.
Students will be notified on Tuesday (1.13) if they have been assigned lunch detention and parents will receive an email notification as well. Students assigned lunch detention will be given a pass to pick up their lunch from the cafeteria 5 minutes before lunch begins on their assigned day (Wednesday or Thursday) and will then head upstairs to room 220 to eat their lunch and complete a reflection form.
If students serve their lunch detention, complete the reflection form, and have under 6 tardies/no skips the following week, they will not be assigned detention. Students that are absent or skip their detention will be assigned detention the following week, and receive a stage 2 office referral. Please review this with your child. We will also review it on the morning announcements.
The Hosford PTSA needs more helpers. We are currently operating without a president and vice president among other board members. Please consider helping even if you want to do just a small one-time task. The PTSA is responsible for fundraising and distributing around $10,000 for teacher and staff needs every school year, as well as supporting events for students and staff. We could really use help with the following events and tasks:
- Communications help - admin for Facebook and/or Instagram (low volume posting for restaurant dine-outs and news)
- Staff Appreciation help - coordinate one or more snack events for staff; do something for Staff Appreciation Week in May; coordinate end-of-year staff party
- 8th Grade Oaks Park field trip help - help organize meal for the 8th graders at their end-of-year field trip in June
- 8th Grade Promotion help - help organize reception refreshments at 8th grade promotion in June
Open Positions:
- Member-at-Large
- Communications Chair
- Staff Appreciation Chair
- President
- Vice President
Please email ptsahosford@gmail with any questions. Thank you!
