Scappoose Virtual Learning News
November 6, 2026
Have you read the November SVLP progress report regarding your student?
Have you received your SVLP students' progress in Subject?
Our SVLP team and staff have been sending progress reports to the students and families to demonstrate their course "progress" as a percentage as well as the "assignments" and the percentage of completion. This is very important to track with your online student to ensure all courses are on track for completion, with passing grades, and then ultimately, receiving credit. Our staff cares deeply about your student making the necessary progress throughout the semester so we can finish without scrambling to complete things. Good study habits are built in Middle School and High School. Chez S. sent out emails all this week. Feel to contact her (see below) if you need a progress report for your SVLP student.
π‘Tips: Build Clear Boundaries with work completion. 1) set a daily schedule: define times for waking up, logging on, independent work, and breaks 2) designate a workspace: create a quiet, well-lit area with easy access to strong internet 3) keep movement breaks: encourage physical activity every 30 - 60 minutes to maintain focus such as a walk around the block, a quick 5 min cardio zumba, etc.

Even though SVLP students do not have traditional "parent/family - teacher" conferences, please know that we can schedule an appointment with Mrs. Cameron or Chez at any time to connect on progress, accessing or re-doing assignments and quizzes, pacing in the courses, etc.
Please reach out to our team members if you'd like to discuss your students' progress further!
We are here to support your student, and your family as a whole.

π¨ TOOLS TO HELP WITH LEARNING
There are many accessibility features in Subject to assist with the learning online platform. Click here to read about the various tools available in the platform! Explore and discover your favorite one!
Assignment & Quiz Scoring Reminders π¨
1. Reminder: students, if you want to increase your score on an assignment you received or a quiz, Chez S. can unlock that assignment so you can try again! π
2. Reminder: students, please do not to rely on the fire icon to prove you have completed what you need to do for the day. Working close to 3 hours is the best way to stay on pace and get good grades. The photo shows what the fire icon looks like.
3. Parents: Students receive it after only 10 minutes of work. Please do not reply on this icon to keep that tracking up to date for adequate progress. We are working with the Subject platform tech team to see if we can have that fire icon appear after a longer period of time of engagement online.
Parent Handbook - please read and review with your student enrolled in SVLP!
Attendance and Engagement Expectations
Due to the Oregon Department of Education's attendance rules and regulations, it is required that full-time students are required to to be engaged in their courses a minimum of 3 hours per day. Virtual Learning staff are able to view the engagement time via Subject platform. More information is in the handbook with hyperlinks to the ODE (Oregon Dept. of Ed) requirements.
Coursework and Schedules
Rhonda Cameron, the SVLP counselor, reviews transcripts, has sent welcome information, and clarifies the coursework your student takes to move towards their high school graduation requirements. Please email her or call her if your student needs to add, change, or switch courses.
Meet Stephanie Liner, Special Education Case Manager while Madison is on leave
Hello, I am Stephanie Liner. I am a Special Education teacher with the Scappoose School District. Outside of school, I like to spend time with my husband and 3 kids outdoors doing activities such as camping, fishing, hunting and hiking. Foraging for mushrooms and searching for animal antlers (sheds) are some of my favorite outdoor pastimes. Feel free to reach out via email sliner@scappoose.k12.or.us if you need help with anything or have any questions.
Stephanie is covering for Madison while she is out on leave. We are here to support you and your SVLP student!

Starting the first full week in September, Iβll be sending calendar invitations for our biweekly check-in meetings. These meetings will take place via Zoom and will be an opportunity for us to review your progress, answer questions, discuss any challenges, and make sure you have the support you need to be successful.
β Attendance Reminder
Lastly, I want to make sure everyone is aware of the attendance expectations. Due to attendance rules and regulations established by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE), full-time students are required to be engaged in their courses for a minimum of 3 hours per day.
Virtual Learning staff are able to monitor course engagement time through the Subject platform. More information about the attendance requirements can be found in the school handbook, including hyperlinks to the Oregon Department of Educationβs requirements.
