Message from Walker Administration Message from Walker Administration

Dearest Walker Families,

We are thrilled to open enrollment for new students and can’t wait to welcome the next generation of learners to McKinney ISD!

Every new enrollment represents a story that is just beginning; a future leader, innovator, artist, athlete, or world-changer stepping into classrooms filled with opportunity. From our youngest kindergarten students to families joining us from across the community, we are excited to partner with you in this journey.

At McKinney ISD, our vision is simple: Every Student. Every Day.
That means every learner is known, supported, challenged, and inspired every single day they walk through our doors. We are committed to high expectations, strong relationships, and meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for life beyond graduation.

Early enrollment helps our team plan intentionally and ensure the right staffing, class placements, and supports are in place so that each child begins the year strong. When you enroll early, you help us live out our vision of serving every student, every day with excellence.

Let’s get started - Your McKinney ISD story begins here! 💙

Enjoy your weekend,

Sincerely,

Michelle Baumann, Principal

Misty Young, Asst. Principal

Dearest Walker families,

I wanted to share some bittersweet news with all of you. I will not be returning after Spring Break because I am returning to my first love of NICU nursing. For nearly 3 years it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the students, families, and staff of Walker. I am going to miss everyone so very much, but I am excited for this opportunity to care again for these fragile and precious babies. I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the year and hopefully I'll see you when I come to visit from time to time.

Best wishes and much love,

Nurse Joanne

MISD Academic Calendar Update - April 6 & 27 are now school days

We understand families may have questions regarding how recent school closures will affect the academic calendar. McKinney ISD will first use our designated bad weather days, April 6 and April 27, to make up missed instructional time. Additionally, the district will apply for a waiver from the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Once we receive guidance from the TEA regarding the remaining closures, we will provide further updates.

Attendance Matters!

Studies show that excessive absences can negatively impact a child's education, including the loss of teacher-led lessons, peer interactions, and academic achievement. While we do not want our students to attend school if they are sick, please help us make punctuality and daily attendance a priority for your Star/s regarding all other circumstances. Should you need to keep your child home for any reason, please click the button below to report an absence.

MISD School Safety

A critical ingredient in the safe school recipe is the uniform classroom response to any incident. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by all McKinney ISD schools and District Administration and staff. Historically, schools have taken this scenario-based approach to respond to hazards and threats. Each McKinney ISD classroom is furnished with the Standard Response Protocol poster that provides teachers with readily accessible response procedures and provides information during a crisis event. The attached handout explains Standard Response Protocol that is taught to students, faculty and staff.

ACTIVITIES IN MCKINNEY

As a service to McKinney ISD students and families, the district provides the Community Folder for school related, non-school related, and non-profit organizations. Electronic communication has become standard and is preferred by many parents; the schools are sharing more and more information via email as a convenience to parents. This also cuts back on paper coming home in folders. Information posted and accepted must be youth-oriented and will be reviewed and approved by the Communications Department. Updates will be posted often, so we ask that you check back for the latest opportunities and information from our community.
