PRAYER
First Week of Lent
Let this be our goal this holy Season:
To follow Jesus through all the paths that He may lead us -
no matter how difficult or painful they may be.
What is there to fear if God is with us and he Himself opens
the way for us?
In faith, we know that this path leads us to the Father and
always ends in victory and glory.
NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE
Dear Families,
As we journey through the season of Lent, our school community is invited to reflect on the powerful themes of social justice and service. Lent is not only a time of personal sacrifice but also an opportunity for us to deepen our commitment to supporting others, especially those in need.
The Church calls us to follow the example of Jesus, who taught us to love our neighbours, stand up for the vulnerable, and be advocates for those who are marginalised. This Lenten season, we are reminded that social justice is an essential aspect of our Catholic faith. Our focus is on living out these values, making a tangible difference in the lives of others, and sharing the love of Christ through action.
One of the ways our school is living out this call to service is through our participation in Project Compassion, a national initiative of Caritas Australia. Project Compassion invites us to support our global brothers and sisters, particularly those in disadvantaged communities, by contributing to important projects that bring about lasting change. These projects empower communities to break free from the cycle of poverty and injustice, offering a glimpse of hope and dignity to those who need it most.
Throughout Lent, our students will have the opportunity to participate in various fundraising activities and reflect on the powerful stories of individuals and families whose lives have been transformed through the generosity of others. Whether it’s through a small act of kindness, donating to our Project Compassion collection, or spending time volunteering, every effort matters. Together, we are building a culture of compassion and justice within our school and beyond.
As we continue this season of reflection and action, may our hearts be open to the needs of others, and may our Lenten sacrifices lead us closer to a world where justice, kindness, and peace prevail.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping our students grow in faith, compassion, and social responsibility.

NEWS FROM MRS BARFOOT
CARITAS AUSTRALIA
Project Compassion
Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
Please give generously to Caritas Australia this Lenten season and help vulnerable people around the world, now and for all future generations.
With your support, Caritas Australia has been able to assist communities around the world through income generation, water and sanitation, food security, education and disaster risk reduction programs.
Toefuata'iga Story, Samoa
Toefuata'iga, a 13-year-old student in Samoa, faced severe challenges and disruptions to her learning due to water scarcity. After Caritas Australia’s partner Caritas Samoa installed a 10,000 litre water tank at her school, Toefuata'iga and her classmates saw improved health and more consistent class attendance.

NAPLAN
This week our Year 3 and 5 students will participate in NAPLAN, a nationwide assessment designed to evaluate students' literacy and numeracy skills across Australia. This assessment, conducted annually for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9, provides valuable insights into their progress and proficiency in these foundational skills. It's important to note that while NAPLAN offers a snapshot of student performance, it's just one piece of the broader educational puzzle.
At OLGC, we view NAPLAN as a diagnostic tool, offering valuable data that informs our teaching strategies and helps tailor learning experiences to meet individual needs. It's an opportunity for us to identify areas of strength and areas that may require additional support for our students.
It's crucial to emphasise that NAPLAN results do not define a student's capabilities comprehensively. Our school prioritises holistic development, encompassing not only academic excellence but also the nurturing of creativity, critical thinking, resilience, and social skills.
During the NAPLAN period, we encourage a balanced perspective. While it serves as a benchmark for educational progress, it's equally important to maintain a supportive and encouraging environment for our students. We strive to prepare them not just for assessments but for a lifelong journey of learning and growth.
We encourage open dialogue and support from both school and home during this period. Your involvement and encouragement play a significant role in fostering a positive attitude towards assessments and learning in general.
At OLGC we view NAPLAN as an opportunity for insight and improvement, working collaboratively to ensure every student feels supported, empowered, and motivated to reach their full potential.
