Welcome Note Welcome Note

Wherever you are in the world: a very happy Christmas to all KISC Alumni! Another term has come to an end. This one has been short following the Dashain holidays and leading up to Christmas.

KISC Secondary (Grades 6-12) left Kathmandu and headed off to different parts of the country to engage in their respective Activity Weeks, which contained both serious and fun activities. Find the photos on KISC Facebook. Primary students stayed on the KISC site but had their own Activity Week focusing on the topic of ‘Kingdom Seekers’. Find the photos and the video on KISC's social media. Subscribe to the KISC YouTube channel to watch more videos.

We were privileged to welcome the British Ambassador and his wife in November. After a tour of the KISC Secondary and Primary site and an explanation of the work of KISC EQUIP, the Ambassador commented that we had a 'marvellous vibe on the campus'.

Hello fellow alumni! Do any of you old-timers recognize some of these faces? Joel Hafvenstein, Lauri Lind, Kristine Ottoson and I were all here in the 80's and 90's. Here we are 'hanging out' on some of the old playground equipment that is still in use at KISC. The school PTA is launching a fundraiser to help expand the equipment options here. Would you consider donating and helping out the next gen of KISC students? You can read more and give here on our GoFundMe page.

Where are they now? Where are they now?

Kramer Family

We were happy to welcome mother and daughter Elizabeth and Annakah Kramer for a visit. Elizabeth taught in Primary from 2013 to 2016 at the Dhobighat site and she returned in 2018 as part of the Student Support team until they left in 2020. Elizabeth now lives in Pokhara, with her husband and son, where she helps out two days a week at the INF Pokhara Study Centre. Annakah is living in Milwaukee, USA, and will start her Master’s studies in Political Psychology next year. Annakah returned to the USA in December but she spared the time to step in and speak to a Grade 12 Psychology class during her visit here. Thanks Annakah! Both Elizabeth and Annakah were clearly enjoying catching up with old friends and reminiscing about their days in KISC.

They also gave an update on the other members of their family, Selah and Emmalyse, both former KISC students. Selah is working in a laboratory in the USA and Emmalyse is studying Interior Design in Italy.

KISC EQUIP KISC EQUIP

The earthquake that struck during the night of 3rd November hit the KISC EQUIP working area of West Rukum. While none of our partner schools suffered serious damage, some of the houses in the villages they are in were destroyed or damaged, leaving some of the students and teachers and their families homeless. KISC’s parent organisation, HDCS, along with the KISC team are developing plans to support the long-term recovery of the area.

The Kathmandu-based EQUIP teacher trainers have visited all the project areas during the term - Rukum, Lamjung and Sihara.
