AMCMS 2.0 begins tomorrow! Just as those that are opening Wellborn Middle School are excited, I am excited about the opportunity that we have to re-open AMCMS... hence AMCMS 2.0. We are going to build upon the work that has been done at AMCMS for the pervious 18 years. We are not going to throw the baby out with the bath water but we are going to change the bath water for sure!!

Where will we begin? The campus Mission, Vision,, and Belief Statements. Why? We need to talk about who we are, what we are about, and what we want to become. That is what a vision and mission are all about. Then we will create statements that share what we believe in at AMCMS.

This work will involve all of us and everyone will have a voice in the process. In order to begin, I need you to do the following:

1. Take a few seconds to read the statements above.
   
2. Think about your mindset about being in the middle as we begin this work.

Why is that important? Just as the statements say... we are not a junior version of the high school level. Instead, we are the transitional years from elementary into high school. Do we prepare our students for high school? Yes! Does that mean we have to look like a miniature high school to adequately prepare our students for high school? No!

Part of what we are responsible for determining at the middle level is to determine what is developmentally appropriate for our age group. What worked for our students before coming to AMCMS may or may not work for them now, but our students may not be ready for what they will be doing in high school either.

As we move forward, we must consider what it actually means to be a middle school and how school should look and feel for our students and for us as well. This is where our expertise comes into play.

I am excited about AMCMS 2.0 and I hope that you are too. See you in the lecture hall at 8:30 tomorrow morning!
