“SUN Bucks,” a program designed for school-aged children that provides $120 per eligible child to buy groceries in the summer, is now accepting applications. The first benefit deposits are scheduled for May 21. The Public Education Department (PED) launched a website with information on eligibility for SUN Bucks and how to apply (if necessary).

• Families are automatically eligible and enrolled for SUN Bucks if their child receives free or reduced lunch; are reported by their school as experiencing homelessness, are identified as a migrant student, or if they are in foster care; or if they have received SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF, during the school year. Families of students who are automatically eligible will be notified.

• Eligibility is open to families with students who are not automatically enrolled if:

o They attend a school operating the National School Lunch or School Breakfast programs;

o Have a household income less than 185% of the federal poverty limit;

o Do not have an approved school meal program application on file; and

o Are New Mexico residents;

• Applications, which are only necessary if a student is not automatically enrolled, may be submitted online at https://web.ped.nm.gov/sun-bucks-program/, or via mail. The deadline to apply is August 19, 2025. Once the benefit is issued, families will have 122 days during which to use the funds before expiration. Following expiration of this window, benefits will be expunged and cannot be reissued. Notices of impending expiration will be sent to families 30 days in

advance.

Re: Approved 4-Day School Week Calendar for 2025-2026

Dear Parents and Community Members,

We are excited to announce that Hagerman Municipal Schools will officially transition to a 4-day school week beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. This decision has been approved by the School Board and the Department of Education and it reflects our district’s commitment to student achievement, staff well-being, and family engagement.

Please note the following important changes:

• First Day of School: Thursday, July 31, 2025 (please plan accordingly as this is an earlier start date).

• Regular School Days: Monday through Thursday.

• Occasional Adjustment: When a Monday Holiday falls within the week, school will instead be held Tuesday through Friday.

• Student Hours: 7:55 a.m. to 3:55 p.m.

We understand that this transition may require adjustments at home. If you are in need of child care services on Fridays or assistance with school meals, please contact Mrs. Belia Reyes at 575-752-3254. We are here to support your family through this shift.

Asunto: Calendario Escolar Aprobado de 4 Días para el Ciclo Escolar 2025-2026

Estimados padres y miembros de la comunidad,

Nos complace anunciar que las Escuelas Municipales de Hagerman transicionarán oficialmente a una semana escolar de 4 días a partir del año escolar 2025-2026. Esta decisión ha sido aprobada por la Mesa Directiva Escolar y refleja nuestro compromiso con el rendimiento estudiantil, el bienestar del personal y la participación de las familias.

Tomen en cuenta los siguientes cambios importantes:

• Primer día de clases: Jueves, 31 de julio de 2025 (por favor planee con anticipación, ya que es una fecha de inicio más temprana).

• Días regulares de clases: De lunes a jueves.

• Ajuste ocasional: Cuando haya un feriado en lunes, las clases se llevarán a cabo de martes a viernes.

• Horario de los estudiantes: De 7:55 a.m. a 3:55 p.m.
