PARENT LIAISON CORNER
Our VA Student Leadership Team continues to push forward and work hard to plan activities and fundraisers, celebrate and share what great things are going on in the visual arts department, and think of ways that will make a difference at BISFA. We are so proud of all of the forward thinking and hard work this group of students is demonstrating!
Fundraising Committee: Cody, Isabella M, Arnica and Mia
There are some super exciting opportunities that have been planned for February by the fundraising committee. The students have decided they want to make and sell Flower Grams during Valentine's Week. These Flower Grams will be made by our very own visual artists out of colorful pipe cleaners, so they will last forever. Check out the picture above. What a great way to send some love to your best friends, teachers and staff, and family all while supporting the students in the VA department! Be on the look-out for information regarding the VA department's 1st time ever "Flower Gram" sale during lunch shifts next week, the week of Valentine's Day (Monday through Thursday).
Update: Flower grams will be $3.00. The price includes the flower bouquet pictured above and a note. The fundraiser team will deliver them during the school day on Friday, Feb. 13th to the students and staff that they were purchased for. If the flower bouquets are purchased for someone outside of school, the students will just take them with them at the time of purchase.

Updates: Our Upcoming Spring Museum Trip
VA Spring Trip to Baltimore Museums: March 12, 2026
American Visionary Arts Museum and The Walters Art Museum.
We will be departing from BISFA at 9:00am sharp! Our first visit will be The Walters Art Museum, with at 10:30am entry, followed with lunch at The Cross Street Market by Federal Hill. After lunch, we will visit the American Visionary Arts Museum and their incredible gift shop. We will depart Baltimore at 5:00pm with an estimated 6:30pm arrival time back at BISFA, pending traffic.
Just a reminder the cost of the trip for each student is NOTHING because of your support of our VA fundraisers! If you are interested in chaperoning the cost will be $12, and now is the time to make sure you have submitted the following 3 forms to BISFA this school year:
- School Volunteer Form this is only required if you have not done one THIS school year.
- Mandatory Kroll Form which requires a copy of the front of your driver's license. You will need to make a copy of this form and either bring it to the office with a copy of your license or send both things in with your student. Again, only if you have not done one THIS school year.
- The Parent Chaperone Request Form for you to complete if you are interested in chaperoning. We will notify selected chaperones as soon as possible (by the end of February for those that have all of the listed required paperwork turned into the office).

What's Been Happening in the VA Classes?
With the winter break making this past month so short, we decided to share what the 11th grade students are working on with Mr. Sheredy in Digital Media II. We will go back to giving updates from all VA classes the month of March. Students are working on their sequential art project, which offers the option of creating a short comic or a graphic novel, typically consisting of 3-4 pages. Drawing traditionally can play a role in drafting the look of the pages before they are shaded or colored digitally. Using reference is important to nail the look of their subject, such as characters and their environment. The class encourages students to experiment with media that isn’t exclusive to digital, as software enables them to take scanned work and clean it up and polish it in Photoshop, in addition to drawing and painting digitally.
