October 2025

Superintendent's Message
Dear LPOSD Families,
Although the final traces of summer warmth have faded too quickly, this month’s Veterans Day events and Thanksgiving celebrations — two of my absolute favorites — are fast approaching. Alongside your child and school community, let’s all take a moment to pay tribute to those who serve our nation and express our gratitude for their sacrifice and service. With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s the season for sharing gratitude and blessings with family and friends. Our District is extremely grateful for our growth in student achievement and increased attendance last year. As publicly shared at our October Board meeting, our data demonstrates a continued upward trajectory in ALL areas. With outstanding math, science and reading results, and top-ranked individual school performances, LPOSD stands among Idaho’s elite districts. We thank you, parents, for ensuring your children consistently get to school on time and encouraging them to do their best on achievement tests. We could not do it without your partnership!
With Much Gratitude for your continued support, bwm

2025 Holiday Card Contest
The annual holiday card contest is an opportunity for Idaho students to showcase their creativity and for the state to recognize the importance of arts in education. The contest is open to all Idaho public school students in grades K-12. An overall winner will be chosen for each of two divisions, one for grades K-6 and one for grades 7-12. So encourage your student to unleash their creativity and take a shot at winning this contest!
Winter Weather — Be Prepared!
- 👉 Parents have the ultimate decision whether to send their children to school or keep them home! If you feel it is unsafe, call the office and their absence will be marked as excused.
- 👉 Road conditions are the primary factor in deciding school closures during heavy snowfall. Monitoring of local road conditions and weather begins at 4 a.m. using the National Weather Service and radar imagery.
- 👉 We try to make delay and closure decisions by 5 a.m. to allow time for parents and staff to receive communication.
- 👉 A two-hour delayed start may be utilized if road conditions are expected to improve mid-morning. Bus routes and morning pickup times follow the two-hour morning delay schedule.
