Build Your Next Literary Adventure!

Just like LEGO bricks, every word is a building block in a story! We focus on structure and creative construction.

  • In-Office Activities:
  1. "Build-a-Scene" Challenge - Use LEGO bricks to physically recreate a setting or key action described in a book passage.
  2. Story Structure Sort - Use pre-written cards (the "bricks") labeled with story elements (e.g., Setting, Rising Action, Climax, Resolution). Sort them into the correct order to build the foundation of a story.
  • Your Takeaway: A 3D printed, LEGO-compatible bookmark.
  • The Reading Connection: Every word is a building block in a book, and every chapter is a new creation! Snap your favorite minifigure onto your new tag and use it to mark the pages where you discover the strongest foundations of a story!

  • At-Home Extension:
  1. The "Sentence Builder" Challenge (ELA): Use our guide to build complex, well-formed sentences by treating different word types (conjunctions, verbs) as different building blocks. "Sentence Building Guide"
  2. Mini-Figure Book Report: Have your student design a mini-figure to represent a main character and write a short explanation of their creative choices.

See the World in a Rainbow of Words!

Authors paint pictures with descriptive language! This day is all about recognizing and using colorful vocabulary.

  • In-Office Activities:
  1. Sensory Language Bingo - Mark off squares when you hear words appealing to the five senses.
  2. "Color-Coded" Vocabulary Hunt - This activity directly ties into the Aurora Borealis theme by having the student visually "color code" the descriptive language they find. Underline every word that appeals to a sense: Green for Sight, Blue for Sound, Yellow for Smell/Taste, Red for Touch.
  • Your Takeaway: A stunning 3D printed bookmark that looks like the Northern Lights!
  • The Reading Connection: Our Art Club is painting the sky, but authors paint pictures with words! Use your dazzling bookmark to find and mark pages with the most colorful and descriptive language. Let the words light up your imagination!

  • At-Home Extension:
  1. Book Cover Reimagined (Art): Challenge your student to read a chapter and then design a new cover that captures the mood, perhaps using the greens and blues of the Aurora Borealis. "Design Your Book Cover Template"
  2. Found Poetry (ELA): Create a short poem by cutting out evocative words from a newspaper or magazine, focusing on creating striking imagery. "Writing Found Poetry Guide"

What Will Be Your Next Chapter?

The school week and field trip may end, but the reading adventure never does!

  • In-Office Activities:
  1. Future History Interview - Describe the next great adventure or learning goal you have completed one year from now.
  2. Map Your Next Adventure - This activity encourages reflection and planning, turning the reading journey into a literal map for the student to take home. On a provided sheet, draw a simple map showing your starting point (Book Week) and your destination (your next big learning goal or book). Label the "landmarks" you need to pass (e.g., Research, Practice, Finish Chapter 10).
  • Your Takeaway: An "Adventure Begins" 3D printed compass keychain.
  • The Reading Connection: The field trip might be over, but the ADVENTURE continues on the pages of a book! Carry your keychain with you to remind you that every book is a door to a new place you can explore and discover.

  • At-Home Extension:
  1. Adventure Journal Starter: Use this simple template to help your student set a reading goal or plan their next big book adventure, tying it to their new 3D printed keychain. "My Next Adventure Goal Page"
  2. "Trail Mix" for the Road (Practical Life/Science): Have your student create a custom "Trail Mix" recipe for their next reading journey, deciding which ingredients represent different parts of a good story.
