Northrop's Little Free Food Pantry needs YOU! Northrop's Little Free Food Pantry needs YOU!

We are in need of shelf stable food to stock our little free food pantry here at Northrop. Items like peanut butter, pasta and sauce, soups, and bread are often ones that go quickly. You can drop them off in the Northrop office or send them in with your student. We appreciate your support!

Homecoming Spirit Week and Parade Homecoming Spirit Week and Parade

We invite students and families to walk with the Northrop group in the Homecoming Parade on Thursday, October 8th. We will meet at Garfield Elementary in the lot by the playground at 5:30 and the parade steps off at 6:00pm. All students must have an adult walking with them in the parade. The parade finishes at Medina High School in the lot across from Fenn Elementary on Union Street. This year, the parade has a board game theme and Northrop's group will be wearing black and yellow. Halloween Parade - October 30th Halloween Parade - October 30th

Students are welcome to wear their costumes to school on Friday 10/30. There should not be any

fake weapons sent in with costumes. Please keep costumes simple as students will need to be

able to sit at their desks and navigate the school day while wearing them. Please avoid face

painting.

Our building parade will be held on Friday, October 30th and begins at 2:30 PM. Please remember

that parking along the curbs is not permitted. You are welcome to park in an open parking space

or use the lot in Reagan Park at the top of the bridge/path.

All parents are welcome to come for our quick Halloween parade that begins promptly at 2:30.

The students (starting with 5th grade) will exit the front doors in a single file line and do a big

“loop” around the front parking lot, head towards the flagpole, down the car rider sidewalk and in

through the doors on the back of the building near the bridge to Reagan Park. Students will return

to their classrooms after the parade to have a small treat and to enjoy a special activity with their

classmates and teacher. Dismissal will be at the normal time.

*SINCE STUDENTS WILL PARADE THROUGH THE FRONT PARKING LOT, THE FRONT ENTRANCE

WILL BE BLOCKED OFF AT ABOUT 2:15 PM.*

In an effort to keep all of our students safe, we ask that if the classroom teacher has asked you to

send in snacks for a classroom celebration, please visit the Snack Safely website to get

information on food allergens and options for keeping our students safe during their classroom

parties. As a reminder, we do not allow edible birthday treats in classrooms anymore.

Monthly SEL Focus Monthly SEL Focus

This October, our Portrait of a Bee competency focus is Being a Responsible Decision Maker! Throughout the month, students will be building skills that help them recognize that their responses and choices can influence the outcome of a situation.

Our K-2 students will focus on trying new skills and identifying strategies to use when making mistakes, while our 3-5 students will focus on practicing skills and working collaboratively to set and achieve goals.

As you talk with your child about their day, you may hear some new phrases, including the group plan, whole-body listening, the Zones of Regulation, having your body in the group, and thinking thoughts and feeling feelings. These are all ways our students are learning to understand themselves, work with others, and practice being responsible decision makers.

We appreciate your support at home in helping reinforce these skills.
