Homecoming is one of the most exciting times of the year at HF — a celebration of school spirit, tradition, and community. As we prepare for tomorrow's Homecoming football game, our top priority is ensuring that the event is safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.

Over the past weeks, HF administration has met with partner school superintendents, senior students, the Village of Flossmoor and the Flossmoor Police Department to carefully review and strengthen our procedures. We have increased security staffing and expanded training to create the safest and most spirited experience possible. We have also put into place the following ticket sales/admittance rules on a trial basis. Read the ticketing rules here. If circumstances warrant future action, HF will communicate those with the community.

Friday, September 19th is also the last day of this year's HoCo Spirit Week. Tomorrow's theme is Seas the Day: A new bombshell has entered the villa! Dress up as this year's homecoming theme, with vacation and beach wear! *must be school appropriate*

On this episode of the Viking Voyage, our students take a trip to the FABTECH Expo. Since its debut in 1981, FABTECH has grown from a regional trade show into North America’s largest and most authoritative event for metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing.

"The student group that we brought down, Skills USA, is our after-school club where students can get the opportunity to work on larger projects," said Mr. Merchantz, Welding & Manufacturing Teacher at HF. "You get to see what today's modern manufacturing looks like." Check it out here!

Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School has been named a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IB CP), a significant step in expanding the school’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and global learning opportunities.

This milestone builds on HF’s status as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and reflects the district’s commitment to ensuring IB for All. IB CP will complement the long-standing IP Diploma Programme already established at HF.

The IB CP combines rigorous IB courses with real-world career pathways — including Health Sciences, Finance & Business, Arts & Communications, Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology & Trades, Informational Technology, and Human & Public Services. Students will graduate prepared for both college and career success, with the opportunity to earn state-recognized College and Career Pathway Endorsements alongside internationally respected IB credentials.

A hallmark of the IB CP is experiential learning through service projects, reflective research, and internships. HF invites local businesses, nonprofits, alumni, and community partners to collaborate by offering internships, job shadow experiences, and career-related projects. These partnerships will help students connect classroom learning to authentic professional experiences and contribute meaningfully to the workforce of tomorrow. Our Vikings continue to make connections around Chicagoland to further their classroom learning experiences: Earlier this week, Career & Technical Education (CTE) Teachers Ms. Andrews and Ms. White brought their students to Motorola Solutions Headquarters for an immersive Shadow Day hosted by Project Manager and proud HF Alum Alyse Walker-Barajas.

Students explored innovation, technology, and career pathways at #Motorola including a tour of the Innovation Center, equipment demonstrations, and a powerful first responder demo, where they had the chance to try on uniforms and gear. The day also featured a Q&A panel with professionals and small-group lunches with industry experts. Our Vikings not only learned about Motorola’s rich history and real-world applications of technology, but also discovered future internship opportunities available to college students.

This unique experience gave students a closer look at how innovation and community service come together at Motorola—and how their own skills and interests might lead to exciting careers in technology!

This year, Homewood-Flossmoor High School will return to holding an all-school testing day for the SAT Suite of Assessments. On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will take the SAT Suite exam that matches their grade level. Seniors are encouraged to independently arrange college visits or other post-secondary planning activities for that day. Read more here.

Quarterly incentives are a way to thank our students for being great examples of what it means to be a Viking day in and day out. As a reward for performing well academically, maintaining a low level of tardies and receiving zero demerits, past incentives have included a silent party, pancake breakfast and more. Mark your calendars for this year's incentives and do your best to be a part of them!

Homewood-Flossmoor High School and Honest Game have partnered to provide students and families with an easy-to-use College Athletic Pathway software and additional educational resources. We know that accessing scholarships and college athletics requires not only a commitment to athletic training and competition but also a commitment to academic success.
