Principal Update
Dear Y.E.S Families:
We say it every year, but man, how did we get to December already? What a great school year we are having at York Elementary School. I’m grateful for your partnership as we work together to help every student grow. Watching students make gains in all areas is one of the best parts of my job!
As we come up on Winter Break, now would be a great time to create a “Family Bucket List”. Brainstorm ways you can connect with your kids and have fun --- reading books while drinking hot chocolate, playing board games, trying new recipes, or watching a movie together. Just like the first semester seems to fly by, so will Winter Break!
Project Update:
Construction is full steam ahead! The large amount of dirt that was removed on the East playground is for drainage. This project will address numerous drainage issues we have around our building. Eventually, the swell on the East side will allow us to have water move away from the building.
The West addition includes the new activity center, preschool classrooms, and kindergarten classrooms. The walls are all up in that area, and they are now working on finishing placing the steel beams and decking so they can start on the roof.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. We appreciate your partnership as we get ready to make it another great semester at Y.E.S!

Character Strong
In December, we will continue our PurposeFull People activities with EMPATHY. We are looking forward to focusing on Empathy this month! One way to think about Empathy is “understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings.” Empathy is a practice that can help us grow strong relationships.
Empathy is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Kind. Across grade levels, students will be developing skills like perspective-taking, conflict resolution, and leadership.
