Valley News: Article by JP Raineri - June 30, 2025
SAN FRANCISCO β Itβs a dream many kids have while playing whiffle ball in their backyard. Playing professional baseball. For Carson Seymour, he lived out that baseball fairy tale on June 29, when he stepped onto the mound at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago and pitched a scoreless inning in his MLB debut for the San Francisco Giants.
Sports run deep in Temecula, and Chaparral High School has long been at the heart of it. Itβs no surprise some standout talent once wore the Puma uniform. Today, we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from Chaparral High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
- Allen Craig β All-Star & MLB World Champion (St. Louis Cardinals) Drafted in the eighth round of the 2006 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals, Craig was a member of the championship team in 2011 and made his sole All-Star appearance in 2013. (Source: MLB.com)
- Justin Dedich β NFL Offensive Lineman (Los Angeles Rams) A recent Pumas graduate, Dedich signed with the Los Angeles Rams in 2024 as an unrestricted free agent and appeared in 13 games while starting in three contests. He is currently on the roster. (Source: TheDraftNetwork.com)
- Sarah Hammer β Four-Time Olympian Silver Medalist (Cyclist) Hammerβs cycling career is well decorated, medaling in several competitions during her career. Career highlights include being a three-time Olympian and a four-time silver medalist (2008, 2012, 2016). (Source: TeamUSA.com)
- Robert Brantly β MLB Catcher (Miami Marlins) Drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Detroit Tigers, Brantly has played for six different clubs in his career and is currently on his second stint with the Marlins. (MLB.com)
- Braylon Doughty β MLB Pitcher (Cleveland Guardians) The most recent alumnus on the list, Doughty was drafted 36th overall in the 2024 draft by the Cleveland Guardians to pitch. (Source: MILB.com)
To promote Bike, E-Bike, and E-Scooter Safety for 2025-26 School Year
Temecula, CA β The Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD) is proud to announce the official launch of the TVUSD Safe Riders Program, set to roll out at all middle and high schools across the district beginning in the 2025-26 school year.
Designed to promote smart riding habits and safer streets, the Safe Riders Program offers students an interactive and engaging online course focused on bicycle, e-bike, and e-scooter safety. Upon completing the course, students will earn a registration stickerβa requirement for parking their wheels on campus.
βThis program is about more than just ridingβitβs about education, responsibility, and keeping our students safe as they travel to and from school and around our beautiful city,β said TVUSD Superintendent, Dr. Gary Woods. βAs e-bike and scooter use increases, we want to ensure our students are informed, prepared, and safe.β

Dear TVUSD Parents and Guardians,
State law requires the Governing Board to notify the parent(s) or guardian(s) of minor pupils enrolled in Temecula Valley Unified School District ("District') schools of the legal rights and responsibilities pertaining to their child(ren)'s education. The Governing Board recognizes that the District is responsible for ensuring that it complies with State and Federal Laws and regulations governing educational programs. The District is required to give annual notification to parents and guardians regarding certain portions of the instructional program and matters related to school administration.
Each parent or guardian is required to sign that you have been informed of your rights. Your signature is an acknowledgment that you have been informed of your rights; it does not give consent for your child or ward to participate in any activity or program in the schools.
Some legislation requires additional notification to the parents or guardians during the school term prior to a specific activity. A separate letter will be sent to the parents or guardians prior to any of these specified activities or classes. Other legislation grants certain rights that are spelled out in this Annual Notification.
The Governing Board encourages each parent and guardian to read and know their rights under the laws governing the education of their children. The District and its Governing Board recognize that parent or guardian involvement in their child's education promotes student achievement and contributes greatly to the student's success. Parents or guardians are urged to fully exercise their rights according to the laws that are explained in this Annual Notification.
