Breakfast Breakfast

Breakfast is served at the beginning of the day. However, if students are late to school it is the parents/guardians responsibility to ensure their children have breakfast at home. Some students are arriving once their class is well into academics.

  • 8:30 a.m. - Supervision in front of the school,
  • 8:40 a.m. - Students enter the building,
  • 8:50 a.m. - Students are late to school if they arrive at this time or after.

A note from the principal A note from the principal

Dear Park Brook Families,

These past few weeks have been event filled at Park Brook, and truly I feel reinvigorated spending time with the students. Black History Month Kick-Off, and Loppet Foundation events have occurred, and more events are planned throughout this month with the Kidarod, Winter Funland, Valentine's Day Celebrations and more.

Our students on the continuum of learning English have begun the yearly ACCESS Testing. While I desire to have a school with a number of activities for students, I never forget that I am expecting students to make strong academic growth. The EL testing is one standardized test, along with the Fastbridge Assessments students took in January, and the MCA's that students take a bit later this year. I do not offer and encourage students to be actively involved in before/after school activities and weekend activities simply to be involved, but rather to enhance the academic experience at Park Brook and create a school where students feel as though Park Brook is not just the school where they attend, but rather THEIR school.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance having students read or be read to at home everyday. In addition, practicing math facts will greatly assist students so that they can readily use the facts to solve problems and think mathematically.

Black History Month Black History Month

Friday, February 6 was set aside as a day to kick-off Black History Month with an Olympic Theme. Black individuals were highlighted, the Double Dutch Team performed, the Park Brook Choir sang, Nurse Yolanda Jones shared her book with students responding with how they are specifically unique so that each student could embrace their race and culture, and so on. An Olympic flame was lit in the courtyard to both bring pizzazz to the event while searing the memory of the day and the importance of Black History in their minds.

Double Dutch Team provided a short program for all students on February 6.

The Double Dutch Team is sponsored by the American Heart Association. Dr. Daly, a Black Biochemist, provided ground breaking research on healthy hearts; Park Brook Students learned about her work prior to the Double Dutch Team demonstration, as we celebrated Black Individuals.

The Loppet Foundation has supported students at Park Brook for a number of years. This year students have enjoyed cross-country ski lessons, skiing at the Next Gen Ski Race at Wirth Park, and then the Park Brook Choir singing at the Luminary Loppet and enjoying the fire dancers, luminaries and so on at the Luminary Loppet.

This year the Loppet Festival poster, pictured above, was designed by artist Kelsi Sharp, an African American Artist currently living in Minneapolis. She has completed works for the Audubon Society, The Nature Conservancy, the Walker Art Center, the University of Minnesota, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

At Park Brook, Black History Month looks to the past, and we connect Black History to the present with connections to our students lives.

It is important to note that Friday, February 6 was a kick-off for Black History Month, however, Black History Month will be celebrated via learning in classrooms throughout the month.

News items were placed on Park Brook's Facebook Page with further information regarding individuals highlighted during the kick-off event.

Valentine's Day Celebrations - Friday, February 13, 2026 Valentine's Day Celebrations - Friday, February 13, 2026

Valentine's Day Celebrations will be held on Friday, February 13th. Students may exchange Valentine cards or candy if they choose to. Cards may be purchased or homemade.

Please do not send cookies, cupcakes, cakes, and so on to school with your child.

Most grade levels have sent home information. The following are guidelines that we kindly request:

Please DO:

  • OPEN your box of Valentine cards at home and have your child sign their own name on each card at your home, showing who the Valentine is FROM.
  • There will not be time at school for your child to write their own name on each card, and we do not have staff to assist your child with this project to complete at home. All students will receive cards, but they are not required to bring cards; it is a choice to participate.
  • Make sure you have a Valentine for each student in the class.

Please DO NOT:

  • DO NOT write names of the other children in the class on the cards – your child will simply drop one card in each person’s bag without having to read whom they are TO.
  • DO NOT send treats such as cupcakes, cookies, and so on to school.
  • Small candy that is in the envelope, taped to the card, dropped in each Valentine's Bag with the card is fine.
  • Classroom teachers will have a way for students to collect the cards they receive.
