Jag Wire

Week 2: August 17th-21st

Jag WireWeek 2: August 17th-21st

We had an amazing start to the school year as we welcomed back more than 1,230 students this week! The energy, excitement, and smiles throughout our halls have set a wonderful tone for how we will learn and grow as a Jaguar community. Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Roar Rallies and grade-level meetings were also a great opportunity for students to connect, show school pride, and learn what it means to be part of the Jaguar family. Our 6th graders are settling in beautifully, thanks to our staff and student leaders who helped them navigate lockers, routines, and those first-week jitters.

As we settle into the school year, our counselors will continue working to balance class sizes, which may result in some student schedule changes this week. We understand that changes can be an adjustment, but this process helps ensure that every student has the best possible experience and learning environment in their classes. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our counselors work carefully with students through this process.

We also want to encourage parents and guardians to get involved! If you are interested in volunteering on campus, please remember that the district volunteer application must be completed each school year. Even if you volunteered last year, you must resubmit the application for the 2026–2027 school year. Your time and support make a tremendous difference in our school and community!

As we wrap up our first week of school, we have something BIG to celebrate! Sartartia Middle School is an A-Rated Campus for the 2025-2026 school year! We are so proud of the hard work our students and staff put in every single day to make this possible. This achievement is a true reflection of our culture of excellence and the commitment our Jaguars have to learning, growing, and doing their best. We are grateful for our students, families, staff, and community and look forward to all our Jaguars will accomplish this year! Thank you for helping us make such a positive start to the school year.

Your Proud Principal,

Cholly Oglesby

Arrival & Dismissal

The safety and security of our Sartartia Middle School students is always our top priority. As we begin the school year, we want to make sure everyone is familiar with our arrival and dismissal procedures. Thank you for following traffic laws, being patient, and showing kindness and respect to our students, families, and staff.

Parents may drop off and pick up students in the front circle drive. To help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently:

  • Please use the right lane of the front circle and pull forward as far as possible.
  • Students should enter and exit vehicles from the right side of the vehicle.
  • Please have your child ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive.
  • Parents should remain in their vehicles during drop-off and pick-up.
  • During morning arrival, please do not park or wait in the front circle drive. This area is a continuous-flow drop-off and pick-up zone.
  • Please do not park in the front parking lot or enter the bus ramp.
  • After your child exits the vehicle, please leave the circle immediately so we can keep traffic moving.

At the end of the school day, students should exit through the front entrance and look for their parent/guardian's vehicle. As students enter their vehicles and traffic moves forward, please pull into the furthest open spot to help keep the line moving and ensure everyone's safety.

Important Dismissal Times:

  • 3:40 p.m. — Last time for early pick-up
  • 4:10 p.m. — Regular student dismissal

Please plan accordingly, as we are unable to accommodate early pick-up requests after 3:40 p.m. Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe, calm, and efficient for all of our Jaguars! We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work together to make sure every student gets to and from school safely.

Cafeteria & Lunch

The Fort Bend ISD Free and Reduced-Price Meals Application is now open for the 2026-27 school year and families can complete the application online at www.schoolcafe.com/fbisd. All FBISD families are encouraged to apply.

As we prepare to welcome students and staff back for the 2026-27 school year, Fort Bend ISD's Child Nutrition Department would like to share important information regarding school meal pricing and meal program eligibility.

Student Paid Meal Prices

  • Student Breakfast: $2.00
  • Elementary Student Lunch: $2.75
  • Secondary Student Lunch: $3.00

Student Reduced-Price Meals

Students who qualify for reduced-price meals will continue to receive both breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2026-27 school year.

  • Breakfast: $0.00
  • Lunch: $0.00

Second Meal Prices

Students who purchase a second complete meal will be charged the following prices:

  • Breakfast: $2.50
  • Lunch: $4.00

Completing the Free and Reduced-Price Meal application may result in additional benefits for students and families, including reduced fees and tuition for Extended Learning programs, Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, and athletics programs. Visit the FBISD Child Nutrition webpage to learn about additional benefits. Only one application needs to be completed for each household.

To apply, parents will need to have the following information:

  • Names of all household members
  • Amount, frequency and source of current income for each household member
  • Last four digits of the parent’s or guardian’s social security number
  • Signature of an adult household member attesting that the information provided is correct

Families may apply at any time during the school year, should their household circumstances change, including the loss of a job, a decrease in household income or an increase in household size. The District uses the following criteria to determine a family’s eligibility:

  • Household income that is at or below the income eligibility levels,
  • Households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservation (FDPIR), or
  • Children who are in foster care, homeless, a runaway, migrant farm worker or displaced by a declared disaster, or enrolled in Head Start.

Laptop Insurance

The district offers laptop insurance to cover accidental damage, loss or theft. It is strongly encouraged that families purchase this coverage. The cost of the insurance is $35 for the school year, with discounted rates and waived fees for those who qualify.

  • FBISD recommends purchasing the optional laptop insurance each school year to protect the student’s EquippED laptop against accidental damage, loss, or theft.
  • Insurance must be purchased annually and does not renew automatically or carry over from the previous school year.
  • The Open Enrollment deadline for current students to purchase insurance is August 25, 2026.
  • Retain the RevTrak Webstore confirmation receipt emailed to you as proof of coverage for any future claims.

COVERAGE DETAILS
FBISD insurance includes:

    • Up to 2 repairs per year — covered 100%.
    • 1 total loss per year(lost, stolen, or unrepairable device) — covered 100% after a $150 deductible.
    • Coverage is valid through August 15, 2027.
Without insurance, families are responsible for the full cost of damage repairs or replacement. The comparison below shows how quickly those costs add up — and how insurance keeps your out-of-pocket expense low.

Laptop insurance may be purchased on RevTrak. Parents and guardians may pay in installments, but the insurance will not be active until the payments are complete.

Tech Support (Parents) Tech Support (Parents)

We know there is a lot of information—and a lot of new—for parents at the start of the school year! Our goal is to make sure you have the tools and resources you need to help your child be successful. Throughout the year, we’ll regularly share tips and resources to help you stay connected and make navigating middle school a little easier.

Schoology is our district learning management system and an important place for parents to stay connected to their child’s learning. This is where you’ll find class resources, calendars, assignments, and other important information from your child’s teachers. Use the Schoology Parent Account Job Aid to help you get your parent account set up and ready to go.

It’s also important to make sure your contact information is up to date in Skyward. Our weekly newsletter and other campus communications are sent to the primary parent/guardian listed in your child’s Skyward account. If you would like to add an additional parent/guardian or contact to receive campus communications, please follow the steps in the Skyward Job Aid.

We’re excited to partner with you this year and want to make sure you have the information you need to stay connected, informed, and ready to support your Jaguar!

PE Uniforms

All students will need a PE uniform to dress out when attending PE . Uniforms can be purchased through RevTrak on the SMS website. Many students at SMS purchase two PE uniforms, however there is no limit to the number purchased. There is no need to list sizes during purchase as sizes will be determined at distribution during your child's PE class. Students are always allowed to wear their own athletic shorts/pants as long as they are black with minimal branding or markings. Students are encouraged to take uniforms home on Friday to launder and bring back on Monday.

7th Grade Students: Every 7th grade student will take health for one semester, but still needs a PE uniform for the semester of PE. Please order uniform now and do not wait until January.

KickStart Students: You do not need to buy a PE shirt or shorts. Specific attire for KickStart will be communicated to you later.
