Principal's Message
October 17, 2025
We had a great short week this week. I hope everyone enjoyed the Fall Break. We are halfway through the first semester. Time flies when you are busy- and we are BUSY at LCI!
Halloween is fast approaching. Students MAY wear school appropriate Halloween costumes to the Glow Dance tonight (no full face masks or props i.e. swords, toy weapons, etc.). Students MAY NOT wear costumes to school on October 31st.
PLEASE NOTE: There will be a scheduled lockdown drill on Tuesday, October 21st. Please visit with your students about the importance of taking drills seriously and practicing listening to their teachers in case of a real emergency.
There will NOT be a callout Sunday evening.
Have a great weekend!

The Calm in the Storm
Dabrowski was a psychiatrist, psychologist and physician who coined the term “overexcitabilities” and they have become known as hallmark traits of giftedness- especially the increased intensity and sensitivity exhibited in gifted people. As parents and teachers of adolescent children, we witness the rollercoaster of emotions daily. In some GT students, these typical adolescent emotions may be amplified and heightened due to emotional overexcitabilities. Part of our job as the adults closest to them is to be their “calm in the storm.” This is not always easy because it hurts us to see our children struggle, but there are strategies that can help an emotional child.
1. Remain calm and gather the facts from all sides without emotion with your child. Stick to the who, what, where, when, why and how of the situation. Sometimes getting the child to write them out helps.
2. Consider other points of view- This helps the child look at the situation from all possible sides and in ways they may not have considered.
3. Listen to your child and acknowledge their struggle. This may consist of a lot of emotional outpouring. Focus on letting them get their emotions out.
4. Limit the amount of time your child is allowed to fuss over the situation. Letting emotions out is good but allowing them to spiral down does not help to constructively move forward. Sometimes distracting them from the topic for a bit may help and when they are calmer, you can revisit the topic.
5. Come up with possible solutions. This allows the child to have some agency by selecting a course of action. It may also help resolve feelings of anxiety and worry.
Being the parent of a GT children and the teacher of gifted adolescents can be challenging, but it also can be one of your greatest joys. Thank you for all you do to support your child at home and for being your child’s “calm in the storm.” Please email or call if you need support.
Have a great weekend!

Traffic Plan
- Please follow the yellow arrows around the perimeter of the big lot to drop-off/ pick-up your student. Students should only be dropped-off or picked-up alongside the building.
- Please do not park. Stay in your car in the pick-up/drop-off line. Students will not be allowed to walk out into the parking lot to meet you. This is to keep them safe.
- If you are checking your student out early, please park in the bus parking (small lot) which is located along Webster Street. Please be aware that buses are lining from 3:00 – 3:25 and 4:00 – 4:20 and you will not be able to enter/leave the parking lot during those times. It is against the transportation code to pass a bus loading or unloading.
