Principally speaking Principally speaking

As we finish our third week of school and wrap up the iReady diagnostic window, our staff and students continue to establish routines, build relationships, and create strong classroom communities. Soon, we will review iReady data and begin digging deeper into both literacy and math skills. This information helps us best meet the needs of each individual student.

Today, we came together as a Fox Ridge community to learn more about the six phases of learning and how to collaborate in planning high-quality instruction. As part of the broader early childhood and elementary community, we also had the opportunity to hear Dr. Gordon share the district’s goals. His message reinforced what we already know: we are better together. He highlighted the importance of professional learning communities and how working collaboratively strengthens our collective efficacy—ultimately leading to student and school success.

I am grateful and excited to lead Fox Ridge in our second year, and I look forward to all that we will accomplish together.

District Support for Families

In D303, we value the opportunity to provide a community of care and support to our families, particularly those facing financial hardship. If your family is currently experiencing a significant financial need, our community partnerships offer several supports for families, including school clothes/shoes, winter coats/accessories, school supplies, toiletries, holiday meals, and/or holiday gifts. If you would like to be considered for any of these supports, please complete the Family Resource Form by September 12, 2025.

Curriculum Night-Wednesday, September 10 Curriculum Night-Wednesday, September 10

This year we will again have a more traditional Curriculum Night. Teachers will do presentations in their classrooms and this will allow our parents to stay informed regarding our curriculum as well to learn about what a typical elementary day looks like. It will also give parents and teachers an opportunity to connect and discuss any questions regarding our curriculum and expectations. (Note: This will not be an evening where parents will be able to talk to the teacher regarding their individual child. Conferences will be held on October 9th and 10th.) Each grade level will present the same presentation twice. This will allow parents to choose a session to attend as well as give them the ability to attend multiple grade levels if they have more than one child at Fox Ridge.

This is an event for parents only. We recognize that childcare may be a challenge for some families. Our Fox Ridge staff will be providing supervision and activities for any students attending Fox Ridge (K-5) for that evening. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide care for children that do not attend Fox Ridge as students.

We hope to see you all there!!

New District 303 attendance procedures-removal of prearranged absences New District 303 attendance procedures-removal of prearranged absences

District 303 attendance procedures were updated and approved at the June 9, 2025, Board Meeting. All district procedures are available in the CUSD 303 Student Handbook found in the Parent/Community tab in the Information column of the districtd303.org website.

Updates to the attendance procedures were made to bring consistency across all schools within the district and to clarify student attendance expectations. One example of an update is the removal of the pre-arranged absence procedure. This aligns with the definitions of excused and unexcused absences found in Section 2.2.

Families are encouraged to review the CUSD 303 Student Handbook to familiarize themselves with the districtwide procedures.

Here is a link that takes you to the section of the handbook that is dedicated to attendance. In addition, the district created magnets for all to support keeping track of absences. These were sent home with students yesterday or today.

We need your help on arrival and dismissal

We need your help! For everyone’s safety, please only use the crosswalk when walking to and from school during pick-up and drop-off times. Many parents have been walking across in the middle of the car line, which is very dangerous. Using the crosswalk helps keep all of our students, families, and staff safe. Thank you for modeling safe practices for our children!

  • Drop-off line use: If you are driving and feel comfortable, please use the drop-off line instead of parking and walking your child in.

  • Staying in your car: If you are in our drop-off or pick-up loop, please remain in your car. If you are waiting due to arriving at 3:20 or earlier for pickup, kindly turn off your engine—idling for five minutes or more creates unnecessary pollution.

  • Crosswalk safety: If you choose to park and walk your child, please use the crosswalk. This helps with traffic flow and keeps everyone safe.

  • Back meeting location: If your child is expected to meet you in the back because you’ve parked on the side street, please make sure they know this plan. Some confusion has occurred when students say they are car riders, as we then guide them to the front of the building.

Thank you for helping us make arrival and dismissal safe and smooth for everyone!
