Decatur community,
What stood out to me this past week was the success of our junior high athletes, a group that shows a lot of resilience and teamwork, both of which are paying off with victories and top performances.
The junior high football team is undefeated at 4-0, and they have beaten three teams by more than 45 points, only once needing to go the full 4 quarters.
The junior high volleyball team just won the St. Francis Tournament this past weekend, adding to an already successful season. I am extremely impressed by the consistency of their serves and a huge shoutout to the coaches for working with them and keeping them focused.
In cross country, we have several runners that are consistently placing in their divisions, but this week really stood out. Kira Burmaster took first and Misty Kliewer took second in the 7th grade girls' division, and Trevor Witt took second in the 7th grade boys' division at Norton.
Lots of great things to smile about for our young athletes. Perfect timing, because it's Picture Week!
Things You Should Know
Home Event Guidelines
Decatur Community:
Decatur County Junior/Senior High School will be implementing the following policies at all home activities:
1. Once inside the stadium, all students/children should remain in the stands during home activities. It will be the responsibility of parents/guardians to monitor their children during these events.
A. 5th grade students and below should be accompanied by a parent or other adult at all activities.
B. 6-8 grade students should be seated in the student section or with family/guardians.
C. 9-12 grade students should be seated in the stands.
2. All balls are to remain outside of the stadium and off school grounds. They can be taken to the park.
3. Students should not be running around or causing disruption to those trying to
enjoy the game.
4. Any recurring issues may result in the student/child being asked to leave.
DCHS has a supportive community that makes for a great environment at all home events, and we want to ensure an enjoyable and safe experience for everyone.

USD 294 will have a 2:00 Early Release for students on Friday, Sept. 30. The DCHS football game with Hoxie has been moved up to 3:00 because of a lack of officials. (The same officiating crew will be working a second game that evening in a different town.)
The 2:00 early release includes both Oberlin Elementary School and Decatur Community Junior/Senior High School.
Officials play an important role in school activity programs. The KSHSAA recognizes the sacrifice these individuals make which allow student-athletes to participate in a fair and safe environment. Twitter (I will leave this Info. throughout September)
I urge you to sign up for our Twitter page. You can look up Decatur County Community Red Devils or follow @DCHSREDDEVILS .Twitter is generally the fastest way to get information. Even my Weekly Messages will typically go out on Twitter before they are sent to you through PowerSchool. I would share this with loved ones as well. Twitter is the easiest way to catch a quick glimpse into the school and also get updates on changes. Our hope would be to grow our Twitter following and continue to share what we are doing at the school.
GO BIG RED
I hope you were able to enjoy the great weekend. It looks like we are just about to turn the corner on this weather thing. The highs are in the 70s most of the week, perfect weather for my first ever 3:00 high school football game.
Until next week,
