Important Safety Drill – November 18

On the afternoon of November 18, Boulton Elementary will be conducting an off-campus evacuation and reunification drill as part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and emergency preparedness.

More information and specific instructions will be shared with families as we get closer to the date. During the drill, parents/guardians will be required to come to the designated reunification location to pick up their student and complete the reunification process.

Please be aware that a photo ID will be required to verify your identity and release your student.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we practice these important safety procedures with our students and staff.

KEY UPDATES KEY UPDATES

These updates are in no particular order:

  • If you haven't already, be sure to sign and return our Halloween Costume Form so your student can participate in our Halloween Parade.

  • Community Council voting is open now, please vote here to help fill our three vacant seats: Community Council – Fill out form

  • It feels as though “squishies” have taken over our school! While we know students love these toys, squishies fall into the category of toys and should remain at home. We have experienced several issues with squishies at school, including them popping and creating large messes, being lost or stolen, traded, sold, and becoming a distraction during learning time. To help keep our school environment focused, safe, and enjoyable for everyone, please remind your child to leave squishies and other toys at home. Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work together to create the best learning environment for all of our Bobcats!

  • We have our Vision Screening this Thursday from 9:00-12:00pm for grades K, 1, 3, 5 and new students.

  • October 13 is the end of Term 1 and an early dismissal day. There is no school for students from October 14th-18th.

  • Please be mindful of early student check outs, the minutes really do add up and teachers are teaching until the very end of the day. Having your child at school is crucial to their success.

  • Our Lost and Found is growing, encourage your students to check the Lost and Found which is located in the lunchroom.

  • If you would like to join the PTA Group Me, text Sami Knell our PTA president and she will add you. Her number 801-425-4830.

  • Our school hats are still for sale. These hats can be worn to school on Fridays. To order a hat, visit this link: Boulton Hats - DSD Give

  • Our school shirt shop is open until Fall Break, so if you want to order a shirt do so today! Order here: Ordering and enter code BoultonES.

  • If you are new to Boulton, the bottom half of this newsletter is there as a reference and rarely ever changes; the first half of the newsletter is what we need parents to review.

A message from our counselor, Mrs. Squires:

Hi, parents!

During the month of October, students will have a lesson with the counselor focused on emotional regulation. In this lesson, I’ll be introducing students to different parts of the brain, and we will discuss ways they can calm down when they’re feeling upset.

After their lesson, you can ask your child what their favorite calm-down strategy was. They will be introduced to deep breathing, guided imagery, and count to calm.

Your kids have been so much fun to get to know! Thank you for sharing them with me! 💛

Electronic Device Policy

Boulton Elementary follows the Davis School District Electronic Device Policy, adopted August 7, 2025. The purpose of this policy is to minimize distractions, protect student privacy, and maintain a positive learning environment.

Students shall be personally and solely responsible for the security of electronic devices brought to school. The school shall not assume responsibility for theft, loss, damage, or unauthorized calls made with an electronic device. If devices are loaned to or borrowed and misused by non-owners, device owners are jointly responsible for the misuse or policy violation(s).

Personal Electronic Devices

Personal electronic devices include, but are not limited to:

• Cell phones

• Smart watches

• Tablets

• Virtual reality devices

• Any other device capable of audio, video, text communication, or internet access

Students may bring personal electronic devices to school; however:

• Devices must be turned off or placed in airplane mode upon arriving at school.

• Devices must remain in the student's backpack throughout the entire school day.

• Devices may not be used in the school building, on school grounds during school hours, or during school-sponsored activities unless specifically authorized by school administration.

• Devices may only be removed after the student has left the building at the end of the school day.

District-Issued Devices

Students are expected to use district-issued technology responsibly and in accordance with the Davis School District Technology Resources Acceptable Use Agreement. Families and students must complete the annual Acceptable Use Agreement before district technology may be used.

Prohibited Uses

Electronic devices may not be used to:

• Disrupt the learning environment.

• Cheat during assessments.

• Bully, harass, intimidate, or threaten others.

• Take photos, videos, or recordings of others without permission.

• Violate any school rule, district policy, or local, state, or federal law.

Exceptions

Limited exceptions may be approved by school administration for:

• Medical or health-related needs

• Services identified in a student's IEP or Section 504 Plan

• Emergencies

• Other school-approved educational purposes

Consequences

Students who violate the Electronic Device Policy may be subject to disciplinary action, including the temporary loss of electronic device privileges.

Personal devices used in violation of school policy may be confiscated and secured by school staff. Confiscated devices will be returned to a parent or guardian after school procedures and any disciplinary consequences have been completed.

Digital Citizenship

Students receive annual instruction regarding responsible technology use, digital citizenship, online safety, and the expectations outlined in the Davis School District Technology Resources Acceptable Use Agreement and the Boulton Elementary Electronic Device Policy.

Boulton Elementary’s Positive Behavior Plan: Paw Points/Coins

At Boulton, we’re committed to creating a positive, inclusive school culture where respectful, responsible, safe, and kind behavior is recognized and celebrated. Our Paw Points/Coins system helps us do just that!

How It Works:

  • Earning Coins: Students and classes can earn coins when they show positive behavior, like being respectful, responsible, safe, and kind.
  • Who Gives Coins: All staff members can award coins, with a focus on recognizing students' personal bests.
  • Celebrating Success: As classes collect coins, they track their progress on a chart. Reaching milestones (like 50, 100, 200 coins, etc.) earns them fun rewards chosen with their teacher.

Key Points:

  • Our focus is always on positive behavior—coins are never taken away.
  • Staff work together to consistently recognize and celebrate student efforts.
  • Rewards are designed to motivate students and build a strong, supportive school community.

Thank you for supporting us in fostering a positive environment where every student can shine! 🌟

SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST

Safety comes first, even when it's not convenient.

All visitors must check in at the office and enter through the front doors. Side doors are not to be used for entry. Please note that you will need to verify your ID to access the building. If you wish to volunteer in classrooms, please ensure that you have completed the necessary background checks. We take these safety measures very seriously because the well-being of our children is our top priority.

We kindly ask that you follow all instructions regarding traffic flow at the school. Reminders will be sent out periodically. Please be respectful to our teachers and staff who are directing traffic, as their primary concern is the safe arrival and departure of every child. Our children learn important life skills, such as interacting with others, managing frustrations, and staying safe, by observing our actions. Let’s set the best example for them.

BACKGROUND CHECKS BACKGROUND CHECKS

WHO NEEDS A BACKGROUND CHECK?

According to state law, “...a volunteer who will be given significant unsupervised access to a student in connection with the volunteer’s assignment...” must submit to and clear a nationwide criminal background check before volunteering.

Examples include:

* Chaperones for field trips.

* After School Activities (musicals, art)

* Tutoring out of line-of-sight of a District employee.

* Any coaching role, such as athletic team coaches, dance or cheer squad advisors, and/or extracurricular club advisors.

Background checks are done by appointment only and fill up quickly. Get an appointment right away if you have not already had a background check completed. Background checks are valid for the duration of time you have students in the district and there is no fee to complete your background check.
