Reflections from Pastor Jennifer

Fortunate are the poor... How strange that sentence may sound! Yet this is what Jesus told all those who were listening to Him on the mountain. He was inaugurating the kingdom by making His commandments clear to us. We have the choice - be self-reliant and accomplish all that we can, or be God-reliant and trust Him to accomplish great things in you. Being poor in spirit, recognizing our need for God, can sound simple. But how often do we doubt all the great things that God is able to do for and through us? I have said it before, am saying it now, and will (Lord willing) say it again - if you have accomplished all that you have ever dreamed, you are not living up to your God-given potential. I know this because He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that I can ask or think. Being poor in spirit recognizes that God has so much more planned for us than we can do on our own. Turn to Him today and confess your desperate need for Him!

April Focus

Our churchwide focus for the month of April is "Rain Down Blessings". Some suggestions for fulfilling this focus are: pay for someone's gas, ask your waiter/waitress if they have a need that you can pray for, visit someone who is sick or a "shut-in". Let's see how many people we can bless this month.

OCC

For Operation Christmas Child in April, we are gathering shower items. Bar soap, shampoo bars, wash cloths, and loofahs are great items to bring. Please remember that no liquid is allowed. More shoeboxes and shipping costs are needful, as well.

Help for the Homeless

Part of our focus of "Rain Down Blessings" is providing help for our homeless neighbors. You can help by giving in the offering, donating tents and tarps, and by going to minister directly to the homeless. On Tuesday, April 16, we will meet at church and leave by 5pm in order to minister in Charlotte. Please let me know if you plan to participate in this way.

Hearing God's Voice First

Hearing God's Voice First

It shouldn't be a surprise that among Christians, one of the most popular New Year's resolutions is to read our Bibles more, read them all the way through, read them daily... It's something we aren't doing but we know we should be. It's an issue we all have.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that among Christians, one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is to read our Bibles more, read them all the way through, read them daily... It’s something we aren’t doing but we know we should be.

We often talk about how important it is to pay attention to the voices our children are listening to. They’re desperately looking for approval and acceptance, especially through social media. But that isn’t just a problem facing our children and young people. It’s an issue we all have. Whose voice are we listening to? What’s the voice that speaks loudest in your life?

In Louis Giglio’s book, Goliath Must Fall, he talks about how Goliath came out to taunt the Israelites every morning and every evening. So, as the Israelites got themselves up, the very first thing they heard was the voice of Goliath, reminding them of their continuing failure. And the last thing at night, as they were going to bed, they heard that voice ringing in their ears.

I want the first voice I hear to be God’s. That’s why it works best for me to start my day with the Bible. I don’t want to start my day being confronted with the news or other things.

For me, email is particularly dangerous. In a world of constant communication and working with a global team, there are always so many issues that need to be dealt with. If I start with emails, I’ll get absorbed in them, straight away. And I’ll be impacted by the content of some of those emails. They will get me in bad form. Before you know it, the other voices will drown out the voice of God.

PRAYER: Lord, give me a desire to read Your Word. Place within my heart a hunger to know you better. Let Your Word be a lamp to my feet, a light to my path, guiding me in Your ways.
