From the principal's office...

We had another great week at Westwood!

Conference week is here! You should have received your conference date/time in last Tuesday's folder. Our staff is excited to see you! Please be on time, and students should come with you to the conference so they can share some goals with parents/guardians. Our teachers stay till 6 and 7 o'clock several nights, and they really appreciate it when parents remember and come on time. If something comes up last minute, you will need to call the office to reschedule.

The book fair will be open during conferences- till 7:00 Monday night, 6:00 Tuesday night, 4:00 Wed. and Thur., and of course Wed. morning for the GRAND event. You can also shop online at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/westwoodelementaryschool22- you can start shopping tomorrow, and the link can be shared with friends and family. Online sales will count as part of our school sales. Ms. Scantlin will use proceeds from the sale to buy more books for the library.

If you have not updated Registration Gateway for this school year, we will direct you to the front of the library after your conference to complete it. You should have received a letter this summer, and we sent another home in folders several weeks ago with directions. We will have another copy if you need it. This process gives you the chance to update contact information, medical information, emergency contacts, and complete the AUA which allows your student to be assigned a district iPad or chromebook.

This is something I never thought I would have to type, but Pokemon cards are causing major issues at school- everything from crying to trading then wanting them back to the elementary version of fighting. I'm going to break the news to the kids this week, but I would appreciate you reminding them that these cards need to stay safe and secure at home. Thanks for your help!

I hope to get to see many of you in the building this week for our GRAND book fair breakfast Wednesday and conferences.

Also, we have our first Chuck E. Cheese night this Friday at the Fayetteville location from 3-9. Part of the proceeds will be donated back to Westwood.

Mrs. Crumby

Free/Reduced Lunch Forms

The federal COVID relief program that made school lunches free for all students has expired, so we are back to lunch charges. If you think there's a chance you may qualify for free or reduced lunches, please go here and fill out the form online or return the paper forms we sent out in Tuesday folders last week. Lunch prices are $2.45 for full pay and .40 for reduced.

How do I receive information from Westwood?

TEXTS: Click here to fill out a very short form that will add you to our text list. We use text messages to send out these weekly parent updates and reminders. We know texts are a convenient way to communicate for many of you, so please add yourself to the list by filling out this form. Multiple members of the same family can use it and each receive texts. If your phone number changes, you'll need to complete the form for your new number.

PHONE CALLS: We also send out phone calls through an automated system; you will receive these calls if your phone number is correct in Registration Gateway. If your number changes, you can update the information in Registration Gateway, or call the office to update.

SOCIAL MEDIA/WEBSITE: The weekly parent update and other announcements/stories are also posted on our school's Facebook page and website. We are working on activating our school's Instagram account also- we'll let you know when that's up and running.

PAPER NOTES: We also send out paper notes at times; most of these will be sent in folders that come home every Tuesday. Every now and then, we need to send information on other days, so it's a great practice to check the backpacks each afternoon/evening.

We don't want you to miss any information, so we put things out in lots of ways!

Does your child want to use a device at school?

You should have received a letter over the summer as a reminder to update your child's information in registration gateway. The instructions for logging in were in the letter. If you have not done that, your student does not have an updated AUA (Acceptable Usage Agreement) form that we must have to assign a device (iPad or Chromebook) to your child. You'll need to update that ASAP. Here is the link if you need it. You can also come to the office to use one of our iPads if that would help.

Click here for the September lunch menu- we are back to 2 choices for grades 1-5! Kindergarten lunch menus will be sent home separately. Click here for the September lunch menu- we are back to 2 choices for grades 1-5! Kindergarten lunch menus will be sent home separately.
