The Weekly Update #4
January 15th, 2025

LEAVE IT BETTER THAN YOU SEE IT
WEEK 19
We finally had a somewhat normal week after all of the delays and cancelations!! It was great to be back in the swing of things! It was a very informational week for parents and students. We had Freshman Orientation on Wednesday evening, winter orientation for all upperclassmen parents and students, and finished off with our CTE assembly today!! I will be talking a lot about the new diploma process in the next few weeks but that only matters to incoming Freshman. We will also highlight some of our new CTE programs that we will be offering next school year. Have a great weekend and remember IT'S ALMOST MONDAY!!!
NEW DIPLOMA
Before break I sent in the newsletter what the new diploma looks like as compared to what is in place now. Understand that this only affects the class of 2029. Next years incoming Freshman class will be under different guidelines in order to graduate. All students will graduate in one of three areas; enrollment, employment, or enlist. This week I want to show everyone the Employment route. There are certain courses that everyone has to complete and then there are additional components to complete in order to earn their Honors Seal or their Honors Seal Plus. Below I have laid out what courses are mandatory for all students and then you can see what a 4 year plan could look like for someone graduating with an Employment Seal.
EMPLOYMENT HONORS SEAL
1) Complete 1 of the following:
Earn a market driven credential of value aligned to a specific occupation
3 courses in CTE (pathway)
Local Pathway
2) Complete additional work based learning (total of 150 hours)
3) Demonstrate skill development in Communication, Collaboration, Work Ethic.
4) Meet Attendance Goal
EMPLOYMENT HONORS SEAL PLUS
Earn all of the Honors Seal.. PLUS
1) Earn a market driven credential of value (Technical Certificate , Associate degree, Advanced industry Certificate).
CTE Courses at WCC
2) Complete additional work based learning (total of 650 hours)
3) Demonstrate skill development in Communication, Collaboration, Work Ethic.
GREATNESS FROM STAFF AND STUDENTS
Freshman Orientation
We had a great turnout at Freshman Orientation this week! The main portion of the meeting was introducing the new diploma to the parents of the class of 2029. It is a lot to unwrap and a lot to understand. I really appreciated the parents and students who came out to take part in the orientation. I also want to thank the teachers and RCHS students who came to represent RCHS as well as make sure everything ran smoothly.
Winter Orientation
We held our second annual Winter orientation for next year's Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes. We want to keep all information in front of parents so they continue to have a clear understanding of what their students need to graduate from RCHS. Thank you to all of the parents for taking part in this years orientation.
CTE Assembly
We put a captive audience in front of our instructors of all our current and new CTE programs. We have grown from 0 programs run through RCHS to 5 this year and are expanding to 10 for next year. This is a great way to give the students at RCHS a way to gain tools to be successful in real life. Kids can gain certifications in areas that allow them to start a career right out of High School. This was a great way to end our week.
Junior Rotarians
The Rush County Rotary celebrated two more Senior students this week. Honored for their leadership and service to the school and the community. Congratulations to Natalie Cooper and Mason Mosburg!!
