Dear Warrior Families -
We are celebrating a wonderful start to the 2022-23 school year! Our Class of 2023 kicked off the school year on Thursday, August 25 with the beautiful tradition of Senior Sunrise Breakfast. They gathered and shared breakfast and played games. We love that our seniors are modeling the way for tradition on the first day!
Washington High will celebrate 100 years of Orange Letter Days (O.L.D.) the week of September 12 - 17 this year. There will be lots of activities for students during this week. The theme for the student activities this year is “Kickin’ it OLD School.” The student dress up days for the week of Sept. 12 - 16 are included below. We encourage all students to participate in the dress up days! The Variety Show and Coronation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15 in the auditorium. The Variety Show starts at 7:00 p.m. and the crowning of the 2022-23 Homecoming King and Queen will follow immediately after the variety show. We are inviting all alumni to the 100th anniversary coronation. Alumni can reach out to Kristy.Van-Meeteren@k12.sd.us to reserve tickets. Ticket prices for Thursday’s Variety Show are $5.00 per ticket. On Friday, students will have a shortened class schedule in the morning. In the afternoon, they will get an opportunity to see the variety show and participate in a pizza feed with inflatables and games. Cost for the pizza feed is $5.00 and those tickets will be sold during lunch. We will wrap up the school day with a pep rally in the main gym. We are excited to see the whole student body gathered in the newly updated gym! The football game begins at 5:00 p.m. at Howard Wood Field. The Warriors take on the Watertown Arrows this year. Students can attend the Homecoming Dance after the game from 8:00 - 11:00 p.m. Tickets for the Homecoming Dance will be available at school during lunch. Prices are $5.00 in advance and $10.00 at the door. In celebration of 100 years of Orange Letter Days, we are offering tours on Saturday both of the original Washington (now the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls) and current Washington High. Tours in both places are from 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and will serve a light breakfast. There is no cost for the tours of the buildings.
We are very excited to celebrate our strong history and rich tradition. As the oldest high school in the city, we are very proud of the many wonderful accomplishments of all of our students throughout the year, and we look forward to 100 more years of greatness. Please encourage your student to be an active, intentional member of Washington High. Our goals are for all students to graduate in four years by taking a rigorous course of study and to be involved in at least one activity while they are here. If you have any questions about your student’s classes or ways to get involved at WHS, please reach out to your student to talk to their teachers or reach out to their counselor via email.
Go, Warriors!

Annual Update
It is time! Parents and guardians of students currently enrolled in the Sioux Falls School District who will be with us in the fall should complete the Annual Student Information Update (Online Registration) for each of their children. This is done through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal: https://parentview.sf.k12.sd.us/campus/portal/siouxfalls.jsp . After logging into the Parent Portal, select the option 'More' from the left menu and a link for Annual Information Update will display.
This must be done through parent/guardian accounts only. Household information for ALL students must be updated prior to Washington High School Warrior Day, August 11, 2022. Only Household A (address that your students’ enrollment is based off) parents/guardians will be able to complete the annual update through the Parent Portal. If Household B has changes to their contact information, the SFSD will be sending out a paper copy in early August for parents/guardians to complete and return to Washington High School.
Any student entering 7th through 12th Grade in the Fall of 2022 and planning to participate in the middle school or high school athletics/fine arts program during the 2022-2023 academic year, the Annual Information Update will need to be completed PRIOR to any participation in activities, which includes, but is not limited to, the first practice, workout (summer included) or tryout of an activity in which the student is participating.
If you do not have access to a computer, one is available Monday through Thursday, 7:15 am – 4:45 pm through July 28th and then Monday through Friday, 7:30 - 4:00 pm starting on August 1st at Washington High school in the Counseling office.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call WHS at 367-7970. Thank you.

The Nurse's Corner
Dental Care at No Cost
Your student’s teeth are important. Dental disease (cavities) can threaten a child’s health, wellbeing, and achievement. Children with oral health problems can have difficulty eating and sleeping and paying attention in school. Nearly 1 in 4 South Dakota children has untreated tooth decay.
The Delta Dental mobile truck will be at Washington High School September 26th – September 30th. If your student has not seen a dentist in the last two years, please call Student Services (605) 367-7970 or have your student stop by Student Services and pick up the required paperwork.
Thank you!
