Our Curriculum! Our Curriculum!

The SC classes use an adapted curriculum called enCore! There are a total of 36 units, and those units are banded by grade levels. All of our classes have multiple grade levels. Due to this, some classes might use two units simultaneously. For example, a class might use a unit for kindergarten through second and a different unit for grades third through fifth. Each unit consist of an adapted fiction book and an adapted nonfiction book. It takes six weeks to complete one full unit with three weeks per book.

What we learned last week! What we learned last week!

In literacy, we began our fiction books!

In math, we worked on counting and cardinality. This ranged from building numerals to subtracting on number lines.

In social studies we worked on famous Georgians such as Jackie Robinson and Jimmy Carter.

What we are learning this week! What we are learning this week!

In literacy, we will begin our new units with fiction books. Each book has a variety of phonics built in. This changes every day. Depending on the book, the phonics could range from letter identification, letter sounds, counting syllables, or decoding words.

  • Ms. Payne is using the book Chicken Little.
  • Mrs. Bassery is using the books Hide and Seek and The Wizard of Oz.
  • Mrs. Banks is using the books Chicken Little and Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
  • Ms. Turnbull is using the book Beauty and the Beast.

In math, we will be working on operations and algebraic thinking. This will include building operations such as addition or subtraction as well as word problems to support the operations.

In science, we will be spending two weeks working on different plants, animals, and habitats found within geographic regions (Blue Ridge Mountains, Piedmont, Coastal Plains, Valley and Ridge, and Appalachian Plateau) of Georgia.

Over the next two weeks, our fifth grade students who participate in the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA), they will be learning about plant and animal cells.
