Message from the Principal Message from the Principal

August 14, 2026

Dear Students and Families,

What a week it has been! Following the severe storm that moved through our area on Tuesday, we hope you, your loved ones, and your homes are safe and recovering well. Unplanned disruptions like this are never easy, and we deeply appreciate your patience, flexibility, and community spirit as we worked to clean up and ensure our buildings and the surrounding areas are fully safe and ready for learning.

Times like these remind us of the strength and heart of our school community. As we prepare to open our doors, two core attributes from our Profile of an Engaged Learning stand out: being Responsible and Resilient and remaining Well-Balanced. Our families and staff have shown incredible resilience in navigating unexpected setbacks this week, and as we return to school routines, we remain committed to supporting the emotional and social well-being of every student.

We are incredibly excited to fill our halls with energy once again!

  • Monday: We will welcome our 9th graders for their orientation day! During the morning, students will be engaged with activities led by our Junior and Senior Link Crew students. In the afternoon, students will go through an abbreviated class schedule so they have an opportunity to meet their teachers and familiarize themselves with the building.

  • Tuesday: We will welcome all students to the building.

Thank you for your partnership and continued support. Rest up this weekend, stay safe, and we will see our students next week!

Best,

Tom Lombardi

Principal

Our Mission: Challenge and support every student, every step of the way.

General Information General Information

Roadway/Construction Info

Please see the following information regarding street closures from the city.

  1. Mt. Holyoke near the school has returned to one-way traffic. We expect the initial confusion among drivers to work itself out over the next few days. If the issue persists, the UAPD will be asked to assist with enforcement of the one-way traffic pattern.

  2. Ridgeview between Brandon and Mt. Holyoke should be open.

  3. Columbia Gas construction is continuing on the road east of Mt. Holyoke, and through access to North Star will remain affected and is not expected to be available permanently during the first few months of the school year.

  4. The Northwest Boulevard project initially resulted in some driver confusion, including instances of wrong-way driving. Additional signage and traffic barrels have since been added, and traffic flow has improved significantly. The placement of cones continues to be monitored to help maintain clear and consistent traffic patterns throughout the construction area.

  5. With the start of school, the Ridgeview/Zollinger/Northam traffic signals will be monitored and adjusted as needed to help keep traffic moving efficiently during school rush hours.

Parking Opportunity

We know parking around campus can be a challenge, so we’re thrilled to share a new solution! The City of Upper Arlington has given our district permission to use the top level of the Kingsdale parking garage during school hours. This extra space should go a long way in easing neighborhood traffic and congestion.

How It Works for Juniors

To make the most of this opportunity, we’re introducing a parking perk system for the Class of 2028:

  • Get Your Placard: Any junior who opts into this parking location will receive a dedicated placard to hang from their rearview mirror.

  • Scan & Earn: Each placard features a unique QR code. When your student parks on the top level, they simply scan the code to check in. Students are not obligated to park in the garage everyday. This code is only scannable while parked in the lot.

  • Perk for Senior Year: Every verified park earns a point! At the end of the year, juniors will be ranked by their point totals, giving top scorers priority when choosing their individual reserved parking spot for senior year.

How It Works for Everyone Else

  • All students without an assigned spot are permitted and encouraged to park in the Kingsdale lot.
  • Only Juniors will be working off the "point" system for preferred parking their senior year.

It’s a win-win for easing traffic today and securing a prime spot tomorrow!

Norwester Yearbook Update

If you ordered a 2025–2026 Norwester yearbook, it will be shipped directly to your home from Jostens in early fall.

If you did not purchase a yearbook last year, a limited number of extra copies will be available for purchase during lunch the first week of September, provided they have arrived. If the shipment arrives earlier, sales may begin sooner. Additional details, including sale dates and pricing, will be shared once the yearbooks are received.

Attendance Procedures Attendance Procedures

Student Attendance

Attendance is a critical component to learning. Students need to show up in order to take full advantage of the education programs we offer. Student and parents/guardians will be notified of the unexcused absences. Consequences (detention) may be assigned for each unexcused absence. Be sure to check your attendance each day to ensure it is accurate.

Reporting an Absence

In order to streamline the absence reporting process, we ask that parents/guardians leave a voicemail on the attendance line (614-487-5213), or complete the Absence Notification Form available on the high school website and on the Upper Arlington City Schools APP. We will no longer accept emails. By using the Absence Notification Form, we are able to organize and record absence requests in a more efficient manner. Note that the form will collect your email address, which we will use to verify the request, so please use an email address that is on file in PowerSchool. Additionally, parents/guardians should follow the instructions in the online form to submit Pre-Planned Absence Requests.

Pre-Planned Absence Forms

A Planned Absence Excuse Form should be printed, signed and turned in to the Attendance Secretary in the Main Office at least 10 days in advance, when possible.

e-hallpass

If a parent/guardian submits an Absence Notification Form or calls Attendance at 614-487-5213 to inform the office that their student needs to be dismissed during the day, they will receive an e-hallpass (EHP) to leave class at the designated time. The student can use the EHP to notify their teacher of the dismissal and then should come to the Attendance Office to sign out before leaving.

Medical Notes

Please submit your medical notes to uahsattendance@uaschools.org. In order for attendance hours to not accumulate towards habitual absence triggers, medical documentation is needed.

Attendance Website

Parents/guardians may find additional information, including new attendance requirements in effect beginning the 2026-27 school year on our website.
