Weekly Update September 29, 2023
Head Cheetahs Message
Families,
October is here! I hope that everyone is taking advantage of the many activities that fall provides - harvest festivals, apple picking, and fall sports! Please remember that the first two weeks of October will each be 4 day weeks for our students. Next Friday, there will be no school for students so that staff may engage in a full day of professional learning; and the following Monday is Columbus Day.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Pawsitive Office Referral
A PAWsitive office referral is submitted when a staff member recognizes a student who is going above and beyond to exemplify one of our three school rules - taking care of others, taking care of self, & taking care of things.
Order Of The Cheetah
The past two weeks we recognized Mrs. Opgard and Ms. Swansinger, paraprofessionals, as the Order Of The Cheetahs. Mrs. Opgard is new this year to the Memorial family and Ms. Swansinger is a veteran staff member. Both go above and beyond to help all students. They both brighten everyone's day with their positive attitudes. We are so lucky to have you on our team!
What's Cooking In The Kitchen
Breakfast:
Protein and Fiber are so important at breakfast time because they both help kiddos’ bellies feel full for longer so they can focus on learning. All our breakfast options are whole grain rich, which means that they have more fiber. We also have a whole grain cereal and yogurt option each day, to provide both fiber and protein. AND on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, we have protein-rich hot options available that our students have been going nuts for! This month we’ve got a new Hotcakes breakfast sandwich available with whole grain pancakes for fiber and eggs for protein. We think your kiddos will love it!!!
Lunch They’ll Love to Munch:
Tuesday we are serving our Sweet and Sour Chicken with Lo-Mein noodles and Amazing Asian Broccoli. We make our Sweet and Sour sauce from scratch and it is DELICIOUS!!! And our broccoli comes fresh from Cold Spring Farm in Colchester.
In the Garden:
This week our garden club practiced being Garden Ambassadors. Whenever we have special guests into the school to see our garden, members of the garden club will be ready to show off our garden to them! Wednesday they reviewed everything we are growing and how we are using each item. The kids already know so much after a few short weeks – they are going to make great Ambassadors!

Safe School Climate
The East Hampton Board of Education and the school community as a whole promote a secure and productive school climate, conducive to teaching and learning that is free from threat, harassment, and any type of bullying behavior. Therefore it shall be the policy of the Board that bullying and/or teen dating violence committed against a student by another student is prohibited. The Board believes that a school environment in which students feel safe, supported, engaged and helpfully challenged is optimal for learning and healthy development. The Board seeks an environment in which students and adults feel socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically safe; an environment that is free of harassment, intimidation, teen dating violence and bullying. Our website provides links to various policies and reporting forms including our Safe School Climate Plan. Hard copies are also available in our main office. If at any point you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to building administration for further assistance.
Attendance Matters
Please note
When considering the number of absences your student has accrued, keep in mind that a student must be present for 195 minutes in order for the day to count! When bringing your student in late, or signing them out early if they have not been in school for a 195 minutes the day will be recorded as an absence.
