IMPORTANT HOMECOMING INFORMATION IMPORTANT HOMECOMING INFORMATION

Friday, October 2, 2026

Dear South Families,

We hope you and your child(ren) have had a great start to the 2026-27 school year! It has been wonderful having students back in the building and watching them lean into their academics. While learning is important, there are also events, such as Homecoming, which stirs excitement and brings us together as a community. Students have taken a great deal of time to build their class floats, design and produce posters, the banner that hangs from Cleminson Hall pillars, and prepare for “the Spirit Rock”. We look forward to seeing their planning and preparation come to fruition and expect a memorable weekend. We strongly encourage you to participate in and support all these wonderful Homecoming activities with your students AND support the football team as they take on Eisenhower High School.

A detailed communication about Homecoming weekend will be sent to all students via Schoology and is provided for you at the bottom of this letter. Please read it over carefully as it contains important information and expectations on every aspect of Homecoming weekend - from spirit days, to the parade, and to the dance.

Check-in for the dance begins at 6:15pm. As a standard practice, students will be randomly screened for alcohol upon entrance. Doors close for entry at 7:15, Students arriving after 7:15 will not be admitted into the dance. New for this year: once students check-in for the dance, they remain at the dance until the doors are opened for departure at 7:30pm. Students are no longer “locked in” until an hour before the dance ends. Once students leave the dance, they are not permitted to return. The dance ends at 9:30pm.

We know students benefit from reminders and hearing information from multiple sources. To that end, please join us in encouraging them to make positive and healthy choices. Skipping school, engaging in pranks or consuming alcohol/drugs before coming to school, the football game, or the Homecoming dance is unacceptable behavior that students may be tempted to engage in during this period of festivities. We want all of our students to stay safe, have fun and abide by the Code of Conduct.

Please review this information with your student and help us uphold the dignity and honor of our Homecoming festivities. Encourage students to engage in our rich traditions which celebrates our students and our school as a community. Together, let's keep our students safe and create Homecoming memories that will last a lifetime .

Sincerely,

South Administrative Team

Dr. Hyliard

Dear South Students,

Friday, October 9 - The Parade:

  • We would like all students to participate in the parade!

  • It is important that students use appropriate language and avoid forcefully throwing candy or other items into the crowd

We are excited to see what your classes have created! Please make sure to respect each class float and the work your peers have put into them.

Students, please do not run through the street at the end of the parade to get to the bleachers. We don’t want anyone getting hurt.

Friday, October 9 - The Football Game:

The homecoming game starts at 7:00pm on Friday evening. Look for the Devils Den and follow their direction! The student section is in the main bleachers closest to the concession stand. All students should display behavior consistent with the Student Code of Conduct. It is important that students use appropriate language and refrain from targeting players from the opposing team. Remember “NO names and NO numbers.” We can raise South High School up without putting others down. We anticipate many moments where you can celebrate South during the game: the football team will leave it all on the field; your homecoming royalty, the homecoming spirit week winners, and the Spirit Jug winners will be announced at halftime. It will be a great evening. So be ready to cheer for your Blue Devils! Have fun. Show consideration and be responsible.

Saturday, October 10 - The Homecoming Dance:

The AMERICANA HOMECOMING dance will be held in the Main Gym. Parking is in the S lot and students will enter the school through the J door (this is the door on the S building that faces Grosse Pointe Boulevard). Students and guests will need to present a photo ID or be identifiable by a staff member at the check-in tables.

In addition to the dance, there will be water, light snacks, an amazing DJ, a photo booth and some themed surprises for student enjoyment. Our Student Government members are working hard to provide a wonderful evening for you.

Homecoming is a semi-formal event, so please wear clothing that fits the occasion and follows the GPPSS dress code. If you are wearing fashionable shoes, you may want to bring footies or sneakers so that you take off your shoes, you are not barefoot in the building.
