Warhawk Culture - WINGS UP MENTALITY

At Westerville Central, being a Warhawk is more than a title—it’s a way of living out our commitments each day. As a school community, we strive to model our Blueprint Commitments: Pursue Excellence, Better Together, Own It.

The Wings Up Mentality is about pride, commitment, and ownership. It’s built on the belief that how we do anything is how we do everything. When students, staff, and families embrace this mindset, we create a culture where excellence thrives—not only in big moments, but also in the small, intentional actions that make our community stronger.

We live this out by:

  • Pursuing Excellence in the Details – celebrating hard work, growth, and discipline both in and out of the classroom.

  • Better Together through Respect & Connection – valuing every voice, supporting one another, and protecting the nest.

  • Owning It with Pride & Accountability – encouraging students to take responsibility for their choices and be proud of who they are.

The Wings Up Mentality reminds us that being a Warhawk is something special. It’s about lifting each other up, working side by side, and pursuing growth together.

Thank you for the energy, passion, and support you bring to this mission. Because of you, our students see what it means to be proud of who they are and where they come from—Mt. Royal Avenue!

Together, let’s continue to make the Wings Up Mentality visible in every corner of our school and every part of our Warhawk community.

WIngs Up ,

Mrs. Sayre

Our Warhawk Blueprint outlines what we believe, how we behave and outcomes we hope to achieve together at WCHS. These beliefs are our guidepost that provide alignment in all we do.

Virtual Class Meetings

On Wednesday August 20, we held class meetings with all grade levels to share important information, expectations, and opportunities for the year ahead. These meetings help us start the school year strong by ensuring students have the tools and support they need to be successful.

Below you will find links to each grade-level presentation so you can review the information that was shared with your student. We encourage you to take a few minutes to look through the slides and discuss them together at home.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping us uphold the standards we have set to create a great environment at WCHS.

Lunch Bunch at WCHS

Each year, we offer a program called Lunch Bunch—a chance for students to connect with others in a smaller, welcoming setting. Lunch Bunch is especially helpful for students who are new, looking to build friendships, or just enjoy a relaxed environment during the school day.

What is Lunch Bunch?
A small group of students meets once a month during their lunch period to eat together, play games, listen to music, talk, and simply hang out.

When & Where:

  • During their lunch period (specific dates will be shared soon)

  • Guidance Classroom

Why we offer it:
To provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where students can build connections and feel part of our Warhawk family.

Students are welcome to try Lunch Bunch once to see if it’s a good fit—no pressure! If you think your student might be interested, please have them fill out the Google Form (linked HERE). You can also let us know, and we’ll reach out to your student directly.

Food Bag Referral Program

Hello Students and Families,

Our names are Nikki Dunbar and Robin Mara and we are the School Social Workers at Westerville Central High School. We wanted to tell you about an opportunity available to our families. Westerville City Schools works with two great community resources to help our families in need of food assistance. If you would like to begin or continue to receive food bags this school year, please read the information and complete the form below.

Food options from WARM and Westerville Christian Church are delivered to students weekly at school to take home. There are two bag options: SBAP consists of snacks (things like bowls of cereal, jerky, applesauce, ramen, granola bars) and the Meal Bag contains ingredients to make two meals that will feed a family of four. You may receive one or both of these food options weekly. Please choose the option that best meets the needs of your family.

Students/families may sign-up for this program at any time throughout the school year. For example, if you do not need this service now but the need arises later in the school year, or if you would like to stop receiving bags after signing up, please contact us and we would be happy to help. If your family has additional needs, please let us know and we will work to find a community resource to help!

Reminder - Student Supervision After School Activities

To ensure the safety of all students, we ask that families please make arrangements so students are not left unsupervised after school, practices, rehearsals, games, or events. Students may not remain unattended in the Commons before a practice or rehearsal begins, and they must be picked up promptly once activities conclude.

Each coach, advisor, and director will share specific supervision plans (including location and contact information) with their students and families. Please review these plans and help us by ensuring your student has timely transportation and clear expectations.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep all Warhawks safe and supported!

School Counseling Needs Assessment

Warhawk Families, Westerville Secondary Schools will be conducting a School Counseling Needs Assessment for all students in grades 6-12 this year to identify needs, areas for program improvement, topics for small groups, barriers to student success, as well as strengths and gaps in existing services. The school counseling team worked together to develop the set questions in 4 areas: Academic, Social-Emotional, Career and College, and general needs. Students will take the anonymous needs assessment during Advisory/Flytime on September 17, 2025.

Please see the information flyer, the list of survey questions, and the letter and opt-out form linked below for more details. Our team will review results to ensure the school counseling program is responsive and aligned with the school's evolving needs.
