Jarrell ISD Monday Memo
October 6, 2025
Next week marks the start of a new grading period. The last nine weeks were packed with student success in the classroom and on the field. A big part of that success is school attendance.
Students who attend school daily are engaged in the learning process. The classroom environment flourishes because students know the material and are ready to participate in discussions or group activities. They are prepared to learn. Regular attendance also creates relationships and builds teamwork skills.
When students miss school, it leads to educational gaps. Research by Attendance Matters shows that missing more than two school days a month equals:
10% of the school year
Poor attendance influences a child's reading proficiency
Chronic absence is a leading indicator that students will drop out of high school.
When students miss two days a month during the school year:
They miss 20 days of school
60 hours of reading and writing
More than one year of school by graduation
When students miss four days a month during the school year:
They miss 40 days of school
120 hours of reading and writing
More than two years of school by graduation
Missing school does add up.
We have information about our Attendance Policy on our website. Below is additional information and resources about attending school and preventing chronic absences.
