Our PTA GLOW Dance Party was a hit!
Thanks to everyone that came out to our FREE PTA Glow Dance Party last Friday! What a great opportunity for families to spend some fun time together making new memories! Our children will be taking it for a long time!
Congratulations to Colin Orr, BES Spelling Bee Representative!
Colin did well in last week's Madison County Regional Spelling Bee! He hung in there for three rounds! On our BNN morning broadcast, Colin shared that he reads a lot which helps him to be familiar with many words. Read, read, read!
We are so proud of how hard Colin studied as well as how he represented Blossomwood! Keep up the great work, Colin!
Special Thanks to Our BNN - Blossomwood Network News!
Each morning our students do an outstanding job providing a daily television broadcast for our entire school. Under the leadership and guidance of Ms. Bethany Pauli, they learn to present information, work the studio equipment, write presentations, etc. They often provide special interest stories and book reviews to engage and motivate our student body. Thanks to them we are more organized and prepared to attack each day!
BES is getting a facelift!
As part of our upcoming merger with Chapman Elementary, our district is painting our building! Over the next several weeks, your child may come home talking about how great the interior is looking with our school colors! The classrooms and library will not be painted until school is out for the summer, but the rest of the building should be finished in the next month or so.
Here is a picture of the hallway coming from the gym to the atrium. It is already looking fantastic!

Overview of Our PBIS House System
The main function of the house system is to develop a sense of identity or belonging and to celebrate achievements. Schools with a structure or system like this cite the positive impact it has on the educational experience and school culture. Students report how it helps them form friendships and closer bonds with peers, and teachers share that students seem to enjoy seeing a connection with students in other classrooms as well as other grade levels. As a school, we also believe our new House System supports our school mission statement and vision.
During the first week of school or upon enrollment, all of our students and staff have the opportunity to digitally "spin" the wheel to randomly sort each student into one of four groups or houses — Emerald, Garnet, Onyx, or Sapphire.
Our House System is designed to:
- Create school-wide community by creating opportunities for students to connect to staff and students in other classes and grades that share their house. Older students become natural leaders by mentoring and supporting younger students. Mentoring also extends to teachers and school staff members who are also assigned to a house.
- Create a culture of belonging as students are recognized for accomplishments both academically as well as their choices related to behavior.
- Emphasize building character through a reward system that goes beyond earning a piece of candy for doing something good. Each individual achievement adds to the collective house/group, making the reward hopefully more meaningful and social.
- Provide opportunities to praise and accentuate positives for both individual students and collective groups of students.
