FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
We are thrilled to announce that our annual Fall Festival is just two weeks away! As one of our favorite and most anticipated events of the year, it brings our community together for a day filled with joy, connection, and celebration. Join us on Sunday, November 1st, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM!
Preparations are already well underway across our entire school community! Our students are hard at work creating artwork for their altar displays, while parents are busy making beautiful paper flowers to decorate. Our immersion volunteers are organizing to lend a helping hand, and the PTA is actively coordinating food vendors, fun games, and live music. Plus, our 5th graders are getting ready for their special role of selling delicious desserts and drinks—and so much more is happening behind the scenes!
There is always something truly magical about how our school cafeteria transforms into a stunning altar display, honoring traditions and creating a warm, meaningful space for everyone. Along with the altars, you can look forward to lots of delicious food, fun games, and fantastic entertainment for all ages!
This year’s festival is especially meaningful for two reasons:
It falls on Sunday, November 1st, coinciding with the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos), making our traditional altar displays and celebrations even more special.
It marks our 40th anniversary as a school, celebrating four decades of community, learning, and growth together!
We cannot put on this wonderful event without the support of our incredible parents and families. Your room representatives should be contacting you with details on how each class will contribute and participate. If you are unsure how your class is supporting or have any questions, please feel free to reach out directly to your room rep.
Additionally, we invite you to join us at the PTA meeting this Wednesday to find out how you can get involved and help make this our most amazing Fall Festival ever!
Thank you for your continued dedication and support. We can’t wait to celebrate with you all!
Warmly,
Directora IpiñaSCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
WEDNESDAY MEETING: PTA MEETING (Night meeting!)
This Wednesday, we are hosting an evening PTA Meeting in the cafeteria and in Zoom from 6:00-7:30 pm. At this meeting we will discuss our upcoming Fall Festival/Day of the Dead celebration. We need everyone's help to make this event a success. Please come by or zoom in.
ENGLISH LEARNER FAMILY SURVEY
We want to hear from you!
SMMUSD is inviting families of current English Learner (EL) students to complete our English Learner Family Survey. If your child is currently identified as an English Learner, we encourage you to share your feedback about your family’s experience and the support your child receives at school.
Your voice is important to us! Your feedback will help our schools and district better understand the needs of our English Learner students and families and identify ways we can continue to improve our programs and services.
The survey opens October 12. Thank you for taking the time to share your voice with us!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Lend a helping hand
Here are some great ways you can help our school:
AM Valet
Come to the office at 8am to get an orange vest and help open car doors on Virginia Avenue. Your child can enter the gates at 8am (no matter the grade) so you can help. We need help Monday-Friday. Just show up when you are available.
Lunch Bunch
We are looking for volunteers to support our lunch bunch activities. These are alternative activities for students who would prefer a quieter activity during lunch. This will begin Oct 13 and continue as long as we have support. Just show up when you are available. See days and times below:
- Tuesday, 12:00-1:20, Art Cart
- Thursday, 12:00-1:20, Watercolor in the garden
Note: You must be volunteer trained and approved to work with students.

Hispanic Heritage Month Tables
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and grandparents who brought our school to life for Hispanic Heritage Month! Watching our students' eyes light up with wonder as they explored the rich traditions of the Spanish-speaking world was pure magic.
It is almost impossible to fully capture the incredibly colorful, musical, and prideful displays created by our families. They truly embody the Edison spirit, driving our mission forward to celebrate the Spanish language and the vibrant cultures that embrace it. There is nothing more powerful—or beautiful—than seeing our community share their roots with such radiant generosity and heart.
Enjoy these precious moments captured from an unforgettable celebration!
