Notes from the Office Notes from the Office

Today, our new Loose Parts Shed was delivered to the Primary School, and our Kindergarten and 1st grade students had the exciting opportunity to watch the delivery process up close!

What are loose parts?
Loose parts are open-ended materials that children can move, arrange, combine, take apart, and redesign in many different ways. These materials might include items such as crates, tubes, planks, fabric, tires, or natural materials like sticks and stones. There is no single “right way” to use loose parts—children are encouraged to use their imagination and creativity during play.

Why is loose parts play developmentally appropriate?
Loose parts play is especially beneficial for young learners because it supports development in many important areas:

  • Creativity and imagination – Children create their own ideas and designs rather than following set instructions.

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking – Students plan, experiment, and make adjustments as they build and play.

  • Physical development – Carrying, stacking, balancing, and arranging materials strengthens both gross and fine motor skills.

  • Social-emotional growth – Children practice cooperation, communication, sharing, and teamwork as they play together.

  • Independence and confidence – Open-ended play allows children to make choices and feel successful in their creations.

Loose parts play aligns with how young children learn best—through hands-on exploration, creativity, and meaningful play experiences. We are excited to offer this enriching opportunity to our students and look forward to seeing all the imaginative ways they use the materials!

Important Walker Information! Important Walker Information!

As the weather has turned colder and snow has arrived, we have noticed an increase in vehicles parking in front of the Primary School to pick up students who typically walk.

If you plan to pick up your child in a vehicle during the winter months, please be sure to use the designated car rider line. For student safety, it is not safe for children to cross traffic to reach parked vehicles during the busy afternoon dismissal time.

Unless there is a special circumstance, all vehicles are expected to use the car rider lane for pick-up. This helps ensure a safe and orderly dismissal for all students.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our students safe.
