What's Happening at Woodside?
Healing Heels Assembly
Today our students were entertained by the young dancers, rappers, actors, and spoken word performers that share the importance of the arts on positivity. Jayda Irene, the reigning Miss Black Sacramento runs Healing Heels and organizes the performances. Their mission is to promote healing, self-confidence, and greater mental health through the transformative power of dance and movement. We believe in using the art of dance to create a nurturing and supportive environment that fosters personal growth and emotional well-being. A positive message for all of our students!
Winter iReady Diagnostic is happening now...
For the first time at Woodside, all of our Kindergarten through Eighth Grade students will be utilizing the same assessment calendar, completing the Winter iReady Diagnostics. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s instructional priorities. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions. 1st - 8th grade took the Fall Diagnostics for Reading and Math, so the results for the Winter will show the growth that each student has made and allow them to set goals for the end of the year! The results of the Diagnostic help to prepare an Individualized Plan of lessons moving forward. i-Ready Personalized Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and opportunities for improvement, so your student can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your student engaged as they learn. Most grade levels have started these assessments, which will continue through Feb. 14th. Check out the video below to learn more and ask your child about how the diagnostic is going for him/her. Celebrate the growth!

Innovative School Design Updates
Our innovation at Woodside is focused on building and using design thinking skills. Why is design thinking important for students?
Encourages Creative Thinking: Students learn to think outside the box and approach challenges from different perspectives.
Builds Problem-Solving Skills: It helps students develop strategies to tackle complex problems in real-world contexts.
Fosters Collaboration: Design Thinking often involves teamwork, teaching students how to listen, share ideas, and work together effectively.
Develops Resilience: Students learn that it’s okay to fail and try again. They see failure as an opportunity to improve, not an end point.
Connects Learning to Real Life: Students work on projects that solve real-world problems, making learning more meaningful and engaging.
As Woodside’s innovative school facilitator and member of the design team, I am always eager to connect with the community. If you have any thoughts or ideas to share, I’d love to hear from you. To arrange a time to talk, please email Deanna Victor at dvictor@sanjuan.edu.
