A Message from Principal Daliposki
Dear Families,
As we prepare to welcome the month of October, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful start we've had to the school year. September has flown by, and our students have already made great strides both in and out of the classroom.
With the arrival of fall, the weather is changing and there’s a crispness in the air. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the cooler mornings and fluctuating temperatures throughout the day. We want all students to be comfortable, focused, and prepared for outdoor activities as well. A light jacket or layers will help them stay cozy during this transitional season.
As we enter October, let’s continue to work together to reach even greater heights. Our goal is to achieve 100% attendance, and I know that, with your support, we can make this happen. Every day in school matters, and each day presents new opportunities for growth, learning, and connection.
Thank you for all that you do for your children and for our school community. Let’s make October just as incredible as September has been!

Message from Chancellor Banks
Dear Families and Staff,
Earlier this week I delivered our annual State of Our Schools address, which was an opportunity to share progress, priorities, and goals for New York City Public Schools (NYCPS). I focused on the theme of transformation, as well as the ways in which a transformative education can empower our children to lead and succeed in a complex world.
I encourage you to watch the full speech here, along with the fantastic opening performance by students at the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts High School. For a quick recap, here are just a few highlights from the event:
- NYC Reads and NYC Solves: We’ve expanded NYC Reads to every elementary and early childhood classroom citywide and launched NYC Solves in over 400 high schools and approximately 100 middle schools. All in all, over half a million students will be impacted by NYC Reads and NYC Solves this year.
- College and Career Pathways: This year we've expanded our FutureReadyNYC initiative to include two new industry focus areas, social work and decarbonization. We are also thrilled that Mount Sinai Health System will be our newest FutureReadyNYC anchor partner!
- Virtual Learning: Thanks to updated labor agreements, our middle and high schools now have flexibility to offer virtual coursework outside of typical school hours. At the over 100 high schools that have opted-in this year, students can take parts of their courseload virtually, including after school and even on the weekends.
- HBCU Early College Prep: Next fall, in Southeast Queens, we will open HBCU Early College Prep, a groundbreaking new high school in partnership with Delaware State University, where students will have the opportunity to earn an associate's degree, for free, while also being immersed in the history and culture of HBCUs across the country.
- Artificial Intelligence: We are determined to be at the cutting edge of this technology, and to that end, I will be convening some of the brightest minds across the technology landscape to join my Chancellor’s AI Advisory Council next month. I’m eager for all of us at NYCPS to learn from their expertise.
For details on these announcements and other exciting news, please feel free to read the full speech. I’m looking forward to seeing all this work unfold over the coming months as we provide a transformative educational experience for our children.
Soaring high,
David C. Banks
Spotlight on Attendance: Ready, Set, Succeed!
The beginning of the school year is an ideal time for students and their families to reassess and establish habits and routines that contribute to academic and personal success. Starting the school year strong typically involves several aspects:
Academic Preparedness-Starting strong academically means being well-prepared for the academic challenges of the new school year. This includes having the necessary school supplies, textbooks, and materials, as well as being mentally ready to engage with coursework.
Academic Performance: It also means performing well in the initial assessments, assignments, and exams of the school year. A strong start academically often sets a positive tone for the rest of the year.
Attendance: A strong start involves regular and punctual attendance. Consistently attending school from the beginning helps students stay on track with lessons and reduces the need to catch up on missed material.
Time Management: Effective time management skills are crucial for a strong start. Students should be able to manage their time wisely to balance schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments.
Goal Setting: Setting clear academic and personal goals for the school year is another aspect of starting strong. These goals provide motivation and direction for the student's efforts.
Study Habits: Having effective study habits in place, such as a designated study space and a routine for homework, contributes to a strong academic start.
Personal Well-being: Starting the school year strong isn't limited to academics. It also involves personal well-being. Students should begin the year with good physical and mental health, which includes getting enough sleep, eating well, and managing stress.
Positive Attitude: A positive attitude toward learning and a willingness to engage in classroom activities, ask questions, and seek help when needed are important for a strong start.
Parental Support: For younger students, parental support is crucial. Parents can help create a conducive environment for learning and offer guidance and encouragement.
Extracurricular Activities: Engaging in extracurricular activities and hobbies can contribute to a well-rounded start to the school year, promoting personal growth and social interaction.
