The Berry Hill Buzz
May 2025
Message From the Principal
Dear Berry Hill Families,
As we step into the beautiful spring weather, we're thrilled to enjoy more outdoor recess and physical education activities. The sunshine and fresh air will certainly brighten our days! To ensure everyone stays safe while playing sports or climbing on playground equipment, please make sure your child wears or packs sneakers each day. We want every student to enjoy this season to the fullest while staying secure on the playground.
This past month has been jam-packed with fun and learning here at Berry Hill! A big thank you to our wonderful PTA for hosting another amazing book fair. Our students had a blast picking out new books and accessories, and their excitement for reading was contagious. Thanks to the PTA, we also enjoyed some fantastic trips this month. Mrs. Sweeney's class had a memorable visit to the Tilles Center for an interactive performance. Our 4th graders were delighted by Diary of a Wimpy Kid at the Engeman Theater, and our Kindergarten students giggled and clapped along to Seussical the Musical. What wonderful experiences for our learners!
Safety remains a top priority, and we conducted our bus drills to reinforce safe behaviors for riding to and from school. These drills are crucial in keeping our students safe and prepared. We also focused on caring for our environment with an assembly that introduced our new recycling initiative. The whole school came together to learn about the importance of reducing waste and protecting our planet. We had some fun singing about it too!
A major highlight of the month was our annual 4th and 5th-grade show. This year the students transported us to NYC in their rendition of The Best of Broadway. Our talented performers, dedicated stage crew, and artistic art club students put on an incredible production. It was a spectacular event led by our very own Ms. Neri and Mr. Fort and we couldn’t be more proud!
And finally, we are overjoyed to welcome our newest Berry Hill members—our Kindergarten chicks! Watching over them as they prepare to hatch is a truly special experience for our students and staff.
It’s hard to believe we are already in May—time really does fly when you’re having fun and learning. We look forward to another exciting month ahead at Berry Hill, filled with growth, creativity, and community spirit.
Thank you for your continued support in making Berry Hill such a wonderful place to learn and grow!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Wasserman

2nd Grade Curriculum Celebration- A Poetry Cafe
Our 2nd grade curriculum celebration was truly a poetic experience! The classrooms were transformed into cozy Poetry Cafes, where the best item on the menu was the students' original poetry. Families joined us to savor these heartfelt creations, and the joy of sharing their work was written all over the students' faces. We were honored to welcome a special guest, our Superintendent, Dr. Rogers, who joined in celebrating the creativity and talent of our young poets.
High School Peer Helpers Plant "Seeds of Kindness" with Kindergarten
Kindness is in full bloom at Berry Hill! Recently, high school Peer Helpers joined our Kindergarten classrooms to help kindness "grow." The visit began with a heartwarming reading of Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller, sparking thoughtful discussions. In small groups, students brainstormed kind acts they could do at school, spreading compassion and positivity. To bring their ideas to life, they planted seeds of kindness together. We can’t wait to see both their flowers and acts of kindness blossom in the weeks ahead!
On Broadway at Berry Hill
Our 4th and 5th graders recently transported audiences straight to the streets of New York City with a dazzling Broadway-themed show! Featuring scenes from various iconic Broadway productions, our talented students showcased their incredible skills through song and dance. The 3rd grade art club brought the magic to life with stunning scenery, while our stage crew ensured seamless transitions between performances. Under the expert guidance of Ms. Neri, Mr. Fort, and Ms. Pizzarelli, the entire production was a spectacular success. It was a joy to watch our students shine so brightly!

Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
Berry Hill kicked off the new district's recycling program by having an interactive Recycling Assembly! Our music teacher, Ms. Dolley, taught our students fun songs and our student council led a school-wide sing along of "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" and "The Earth Day Song." Following the assembly, students had clear expectations of how to recycle paper appropriately and started participating in the new initiative right away!
Superintendents for a Day Visit Berry Hill
Our school had the pleasure of hosting a visit from our Superintendent, accompanied by two middle school students taking on the role of "Superintendent for a Day." Together, they spent time in a fifth-grade classroom, reading the inspiring book What the Road Said by Cleo Wade. The story sparked meaningful conversations, as the students shared their thoughts about the exciting and new aspects of transitioning to middle school. This visit provided a wonderful opportunity for connection and encouragement as our fifth graders prepare for the next step in their educational journey!
3rd Grade Celebrates Our Diverse Community
Our 3rd graders recently embarked on a heartwarming celebration of diversity, exploring what makes each of them unique and special. They reflected on their individuality and the beautiful differences that enrich our community. As a highlight, the students expressed their self-identity by creating personal portraits that showcase their amazing personalities and talents. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate who they are and to embrace the unique qualities that make our school so special!
