Message From the Principal- Family Holiday Support

It’s a great day to be an Eagle!

The halls of Eagle Ridge are buzzing with excitement as we approach winter break at the end of next week. This December has been filled with special events and joyful moments that make our school community so vibrant. Tonight, our amazing choir will share their talents in a concert for families, and students will have the chance to enjoy this performance on Friday morning.

I am continually inspired by the kindness our students show each day, looking out for one another and making sure everyone feels cared for. It’s also wonderful to watch their excitement as they shop for gifts for their family and loved ones at our Holiday Shop, choosing items with such pride and thoughtfulness.

I am incredibly grateful for our Eagle Ridge parents who have volunteered their time and energy to make the Holiday Shop a huge success. A very special shout-out goes to Erin, who is in her final year as our Holiday Shop lead. She has been exceptional, and her dedication over the years has made a lasting impact on our students and community.

Thank you to our Eagle Ridge families and staff for making this season so special. Let’s finish this month strong, celebrating learning, friendship, and the joy of our community!

Holiday Help for ERE Families... Holiday Help for ERE Families...

As we enter this special time of year, I want to extend my warmest wishes for a joyful and peaceful holiday season to each of you. One of the greatest strengths of our community is the way we come together to support one another, especially during times of need.

This year, we are once again reaching out with an opportunity to help some of our Eagle Ridge families who may be facing challenges. If your family is able, we invite you to sign up to provide a gift card that will be given directly to one of our families in need. Even a small contribution can make a meaningful difference and help ensure that every child in our community feels the warmth, care, and joy of the holidays.

I truly appreciate your generosity and your willingness to lift up our neighbors. Thank you for helping us create a holiday season where all our children feel supported, valued, and celebrated.

Holiday Shop

6th graders are busy shoppers at the Holiday Shop this week!

Honors Choir- 5th and 6th Grade Students ONLY!!! Honors Choir- 5th and 6th Grade Students ONLY!!!

Dear Fifth and Sixth Graders and Parents,

Auditions for DCSD Honor Choir will be Monday and Tuesday, December 15 and 16 (and Wednesday, December 17, if needed) from 12:30-1:10 (during lunch recess for 5th and right before lunch for 6th: you will receive a scheduled time).

We will all come in and warm up together and then you can stay on your own or with someone else if that makes you more comfortable.

Please come prepared to sing the melody of "Do Re Mi" (I have listed three links below) and another piece that you have prepared that you feel showcases your singing voice (optional).

I will be able to pull up the music for the song you choose.

Remember, you must be able to match pitch in order to be in Honor Choir. I am limited on how many singers I can bring-I do not know the number yet.

If you make it, we will figure out a schedule for rehearsals that works for everyone. There will also be a $20 fee (please let me know if this is a hardship and we will work something out). You will be expected to work on the music at home as well. (Links and rehearsal tracks will be provided.)

On Friday, February 20, we will rehearse all day at Mountain Vista HS (you will be excused from school) and there will be an evening concert there as well that same day. You will need to provide your own transportation.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

From the Counselor's Corner

December Counseling Newsletter

Can you believe the end of the semester is already upon us?! The holiday season brings joy, excitement, and lots of changes to daily life. While this can be fun, it can also be overwhelming for children as well as adults. Consistent routines and strong emotional regulation skills help students stay grounded, calm, and ready to learn—both at school and at home.

Why Emotional Regulation Matters

Emotional regulation is a child’s ability to understand, manage, and respond to feelings in healthy ways. During December, students often experience: heightened excitement, anxiety about schedule changes, sensory overload, and fatigue from late nights or busy holiday events.

Helping children notice their emotions and practice calming strategies supports more regulated behavior, stronger peer relationships, improved focus, greater resilience.

The Power of Steady Routines

Holiday excitement often disrupts sleep, meals, and the normal flow of the day. Routines help children feel safe and emotionally anchored. Predictable routines support: reduced stress, smoother transitions, better behavior, and stronger self-regulation. Even when life gets busy, small moments of predictability make a big difference.

Family Tips for a Calm December

1. Keep Bedtime as Consistent as Possible: Children regulate better when their bodies are well rested.

2. Preview Schedule Changes: Let kids know what’s happening before you go somewhere or host an event.

3. Model Emotional Regulation: Use language like: “I'm feeling stressed, so I'm going to take a deep breath.”

4. Protect Simple Daily Rituals: Family meals, story time, morning check-ins, or bedtime routines help children feel secure even during busy weeks.

In Conclusion,

December can be magical, but it can also be overwhelming. Supporting students’ emotional regulation and providing consistent routines helps them thrive both academically and emotionally.

Wishing you a calm and joyful holiday season!

Linda Lieber and Laura Miller
