DECATUR BULLDOGS ATHLETICS WEBSITE

Bulldog Families,

As the school year winds down, this time is filled with excitement, emotion, and reflection. Spring sports are coming to a close, playoffs are underway, and we continue honoring the Class of 2025 as many student-athletes take the field or court as Bulldogs for the final time. Amid the packed schedules and celebrations, we encourage everyone—students, families, and coaches—to pause and appreciate the powerful memories, growth, and connections made through athletics at Decatur High School. We’re grateful to be part of a community that values and supports the positive impact of sports on our young people.

As we always say, there is always a lot to celebrate in CSD Athletics. If you have any questions or need guidance relating to our programs, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thanks for your support. Go Bulldogs!!

Decatur returns a strong core of underclassmen who will look to continue the tradition of excellence next year. Thank you to our coaches who dedicate themselves to building a positive experience for our soccer families!

Additionally, FIVE of our Bulldog Seniors have committed to continuing their careers at the collegiate level. We are proud of them and look forward to following their success in the future!

Referee's Inspiring Act of Sportsmanship

In a heartwarming display of empathy and sportsmanship, a referee's actions during a recent game have captured widespread attention. The video showcases the referee going above and beyond to support a young athlete, not only reminding us all of the profound impact that kindness and understanding can have in sports, but the important role our officials play in creating opportunities for students!

Supporting Your Athlete Through Limited Playing Time

It can be tough to watch your athlete work hard and still receive limited playing time. But these moments offer powerful opportunities to build resilience, self-advocacy, and growth.

Parents and caregivers can support their athletes by:

  • Offering unconditional encouragement and celebrating progress

  • Listening with empathy and validating their experiences

  • Helping set effort-based goals

  • Encouraging focus on controllables—like attitude, effort, and teamwork

  • Guiding them to self-advocate respectfully with coaches

This guidance comes from the Positive Coaching Alliance, whose mission is to help athletes thrive both on and off the field. With your support, your athlete can turn a challenging situation into a chance to grow in confidence, communication, and character. Se the full article linked below.

Tips for a Positive Parent/Caregiver-Coach Partnership

The role of an athlete's parent is challenging for many reasons! Finding opportunities for your child to participate, encouraging them to take risks, celebrating their accomplishments, supporting them through various challenges... It adds up and can take a toll. This resource from the Positive Coaching Alliance emphasizes the importance of building a partnership with your child's coach and provides helpful strategies to do so. There are many valuable lessons our students can learn through sports, many of which are not fun or easy to learn, and having adults who are working together makes the challenging times beneficial!

What are YOUR Youth Sports Goals?

This year, the Bulldogs are partnering again with the Positive Coaching Alliance to enhance the experience of our students, coaches, and Bulldog families. The PCA has a vast number of resources that can help us make the most of our experience.

This resource is an activity we shared last year that aims at helping students and their families determine what their goals are as student-athletes. This exercise can spark some important conversations about how families decide to navigate this experience. Making sure everyone is on the same page about what desired outcomes can help to create a positive experience!
