Monthly Update
Dear Lamoille South Families,
As you know through our morning communications, today there was a report of a suspicious individual near Stowe Middle School. The schools went into a lockdown and the Stowe Police and Lamoille County Sheriff's Department responded, evaluated the situation, and determined there was no threat. We are extremely thankful for the swift response from our law enforcement, and these moments are still extremely hard. It doesn't help that we had a similar event occur last year on the exact same day.
We appreciate any feedback regarding the communication that went out today. Our goal with those communications is to provide timely updates while we also navigate the situation. We have attended several recent trainings on crisis response that have helped us strengthen our approach and we are always looking to improve in this area.
The national news, divisiveness, and overall increase in anger makes it even more important for us to model kindness, empathy, and resilience for our children. This weekend, please consider attending some local events such as the PA Girls soccer team playing Harwood at home or the Stowe Girls soccer team playing Lyndon at home. Both games are tonight at 4:30 PM. There is also Rocktoberfest in Morrisville where we will have students performing. These events are great opportunities to refocus and celebrate our students' talents.
I feel fortunate every day to work with such talented educators and supportive families who make our schools strong.
Sincerely,
Ryan Heraty
Superintendent

One-Page Strategic Plans
Similar to last year, our principals and building leadership teams have worked closely with our central office team and school boards to provide concise, one-page strategic plan documents that allow families to see exactly where the focus areas are in each school. Clicking the link below will allow you to review each of these plans, which will hopefully provide a lens into where our efforts and resources are being directed.
Grading and Reporting Updates
We have been receiving positive feedback regarding the shift in grading practices across our supervisory union. One area that people have really appreciated is the weekly updates via PowerSchool. If you haven't downloaded the Powerschool App for Middle and High School grade updates, please consider doing so. This app allows families to easily access their child's grades and is updated every Friday.
- Directions for Mobile App: (new users) Open the relevant app store on your device, search for "PowerSchool," and then download the free "PowerSchool App." Use the code LNMT to link to the LSSU database, and enter the login credentials you were provided with by the district. If you need those credential again, please contact Katy Durgin in our central office katy.durgin@lamoillesouth.org
- Navigate between different views from a menu on the bottom of the screen. If you have more than one child, switch between their information by clicking on another name in the top right corner.
Legislative Update - Act 73
Earlier this month, the News & Citizen / Stowe Reporter wrote a detailed article highlighting our supervisory union's approach to the work of the state's redistricting task force. As a part of Act 73, the state has commissioned a group to draw up to three district maps that will be shared with the legislature on December 1st.
To gain feedback, this task force sent out a survey to school board chairs. This survey will be reviewed on Tuesday at a special joint meeting with the Elmore-Morristown and Stowe School Boards. The meeting will be held virtually at 12PM and the public is welcome to share input via public comment or email.
If you have a public comment you would like to share via email, you can send that directly to lisa.cross@lamoillesouth.org and it will be shared with the board.
Lamoille South Robotics Team - Open to all High School Students
Bad Weather is a robotics team of students from Stowe High School and Peoples Academy. Every year they need to design, build, and code a fully functioning 150 lb robot to compete in FRC, a global robotics competition.
Come learn more at Stowe High School Auditorium on Thursday, October 23, 2025 @ 7pm
You can meet the team, hear what it's all about, check out the work space, see the robot in action, and ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS.
Parents are absolutely welcome (and encouraged) to come.
There will be refreshments.
NO COMMITMENT - just see if this is right for you.
Any questions, please email Vanessa Violette and Jen Bass at frc.9096@gmail.com.
