Welcome Back to School
Let's Get Rolling, 2026-2027
🎉 Welcome Back to an Amazing School Year! 🎉
Dear Declo High School Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! I am incredibly excited to begin this new chapter as the principal of Declo High School. While I may be new to the high school, so many of you are already familiar faces. I had the privilege of being principal for many of our students during their middle school years, and I am truly excited to once again be part of their journey as they continue to grow, learn, and prepare for what comes next.
To Our Students:
High school is filled with opportunities to challenge yourself, discover new interests, build lasting friendships, and create memories that will stay with you long after graduation. I encourage each of you to get involved, work hard, support one another, and take pride in being a Declo Hornet. Whether you are walking through our doors for the first time or beginning your senior year, I cannot wait to see what you accomplish.
To Our Parents and Families:
Thank you for trusting us with your students. Your partnership is incredibly important, and I look forward to working alongside you to support their academic success, personal growth, and overall high school experience. Please know that my door is always open, and I encourage you to reach out with questions, concerns, ideas, or simply to say hello.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be joining the Declo High School family and to continue serving a community and students who mean so much to me. We have an exciting year ahead, and I cannot wait to see all that we accomplish together.
Let’s make it an amazing year, Hornets!

Student Schedule Update
Mrs. Dial has finished student schedules, and they will now be published in PowerSchool.
Please take a moment to review your schedule. If you notice a major issue that needs to be changed, we will have a process in place on Tuesday for students who need schedule adjustments.
If you are unable to access PowerSchool, no worries! We will be happy to provide you with a printed copy of your schedule when you arrive Tuesday morning.
We are excited to welcome everyone back and can’t wait to get the year started!

Did you know...? Why Daily Attendance Matters:
Attendance isn’t just about being present in the classroom; it’s about setting the foundation for success throughout the school year. Each day your child attends school, they’re building on their knowledge, developing important social skills, and participating in activities that shape their growth. Consistent attendance helps students stay on track with their learning, and it makes it easier for them to connect with their teachers and classmates.
But did you know that attendance has an even bigger impact on our school? In Idaho, schools are funded based on our average daily attendance (ADA). This means that every day your child is present, they’re helping to ensure our school receives the resources we need to provide the best education possible. The first 10 weeks of the school year are especially crucial, as they play a significant role in determining our funding for the entire year.
So, let’s make every day count! By ensuring your child is here and ready to learn, you’re not only supporting their academic success but also contributing to the success of our entire school community. Together, we can make this year a fantastic one!
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
If your child is hesitant to come to school, please reach out, and we’ll create a support plan together.
Guidelines for Parent-Student Communication During School Hours
To ensure that our students remain focused on their learning during school hours, we ask that you follow the guidelines below for communicating with your child:
Non-Emergency Messages: If you need to provide information to your child during the school day, please call the front office and leave a message. These messages will be checked and delivered to students before lunch and at the end of the day.
Personal Communication Devices: Please note that students should not be using personal communication devices during school hours. Parents and guardians should not expect to communicate directly with their children via cell phones or other devices during this time.
Emergency Situations: In the event of an emergency, please contact the front office directly. School personnel will handle the situation with the appropriate urgency and ensure that the necessary information is communicated to your child.
Thank you for helping us maintain a focused and secure learning environment for all our students.

HORNET strEAT MARKET & BISTRO OPENING SOON AT DHS!
Healthy eating at DHS is about to get easier, more convenient, and more exciting! We are thrilled to announce that Declo High School is working hard to open the Hornet strEAT Market & Bistro, located right on the DHS campus.
This innovative new space will offer students and staff fresh, healthy, and delicious reimbursable meal options, along with a variety of à la carte favorites. The Market & Bistro will feature a daily selection of hot and cold grab-and-go meals, smart snacks, drinks, and rotating customizable food bars, giving everyone more choices while still meeting high nutritional standards. Our goal is to make school lunch something students look forward to while providing a quick, wholesome, and convenient option throughout the school day.
This exciting project is being developed in partnership with our Declo Food & Nutrition Department, and we are grateful for the example and inspiration Gooding High School has provided as we work to bring an exceptional school lunch experience to Declo High. Many of these meal options will be available through the regular school lunch program and normal meal pricing, making it especially important for families to complete their Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application so eligible students can receive the benefits available to them. The Free and Reduced-Price Meal Application is attached below for your convenience.
We can’t wait to bring the Hornet strEAT Market & Bistro to DHS!
Free and Reduced Lunch
Declo High School is currently the only school in the Declo schools that does not qualify for Title I funding, and we want to make sure that designation accurately reflects the needs of our students and families.
Title I qualification is based in part on the percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals, which makes participation in the application process extremely important. If Declo High qualifies, additional federal funding may become available to help provide valuable student supports, including paraeducators, academic interventions, Friday School support, and other programs and resources. Meal eligibility information can also impact access to additional school nutrition opportunities.
We kindly ask every family who has not yet completed the Free & Reduced Lunch Application to do so. Only one application is needed per household, and families may also submit an updated application if household income or circumstances have changed. Even if you are unsure whether you will qualify, completing the form helps us better understand the needs of our school community and ensures Declo High has the opportunity to receive every resource our students may be eligible for.
Thank you for your time and effort to help our school.
District News
Moment of Silence
As outlined in Idaho Code § 33-1639, all Cassia County schools will begin each school day with a one-minute moment of silence. During this time, students may quietly reflect, meditate, pray, or simply prepare their minds for the day, as long as their choice does not distract others. We encourage families to talk with their students about the purpose of this time and how they can use it in a positive and meaningful way.
