A Trip Down Goshen Lane
Issue 31: March 20, 2026
Principal's Message
Hello, Families,
We continue to be blown away by the dedication our students are showing to their Read-A-Thon minutes. This is a special opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading across our school community! Read-A-Thon encourages students to build strong reading habits while having fun and working toward shared goals. Families can support by setting aside time each day for reading at home and cheering on their child’s progress. We look forward to seeing our students grow as readers and can’t wait to celebrate them at upcoming Town Hall meetings and Raffle Pulls. Keep the pages turning and keep logging those online minutes. More info and celebrations can be found in the PTA information below.
A special shout out goes to our fifth graders as they participated this week in the much anticipated annual 5th Grade BizTown field trip. This hands-on program allows students across Central Ohio to step into adult roles, run businesses, manage finances, and work collaboratively as part of a simulated community. Through this experience, students build important life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving. Way to go, fifth graders!
Enjoy each other on this three-day weekend,
Sharon Suriano
Principal
Spring Break Reminder
Spring break is March 30 - April 3.
We hope this time provides our students, families, and staff with an opportunity to rest, recharge, and enjoy meaningful time together. Whether you are traveling, spending time outdoors, or simply relaxing at home, we encourage everyone to take a well-deserved break from the busy school routine. We look forward to welcoming our students back refreshed and ready for a strong finish to the school year!
Spring Ohio State Tests (OSTs)
As we approach our upcoming Ohio State Tests, we want to thank our students and families for the continued support in helping our learners do their best each day. These assessments provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth and the skills they have been building throughout the year. We encourage families to help students come to school well-rested, on time, and ready to show what they know. Please schedule appointments on days your student is not testing. We are proud of the hard work our students and teachers have put in, and we look forward to celebrating their efforts and accomplishments!
Please see the Grade 3-5 testing details below.

An example of student work in progress: research on Billie Holiday collected by 5th grader, Dior.
And, enjoy this performance of the Alphabet Song with a special stylistic twist by Patti LaBelle!
March is a time to celebrate many things, including Women’s History Month! Our 4th and 5th grade students have been busy researching the lives of important female leaders in musical genres such as the blues, country, jazz, pop, R&B, hip hop, and more! We hope to share some of these completed projects on the screens throughout our hallways, or even on GNN reports!
Students in 3rd grade have been diving into the study of American “play parties,” which were common social events in the 19th and 20th century. These were often organized by girls and young women, as spaces where people of all ages in the community could join together in playing musical games and following sets of movement instructions.
Primary grades (K, 1, and 2) have been able to enjoy the musical contributions of household names such as Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, and Madeline Kahn. In addition, they have worked on music classroom activities crafted and shared by teachers such as Bessie Jones, Charissa Duncanson, Melissa Fuller Flores, Priya Raman, Mary Alice Amidon, Sue Casto, Stephanie Leavell, and Jayne Wenner.
Questions to ask your student:
Which female musical leaders do you know?
What is your favorite music room game or activity? Could you teach me how it goes?
