ELEMENTARY FAMILIES

Elementary Families,

Mr. Newlin and Mrs. Carter presented their annual bullying presentation to all elementary students! Students learned about the definition of bullying, the different types of bullying and how to stop bullying if it happens to them or others. Each grade level had a read aloud and accompanying activity. Students had a great time sharing how they would stop bullying in our school community! Student work created during this time will adorn our hallways within the next few weeks! If you’re in the building, make sure to check it out! If you would like to talk to your child about the book they read, please see the book list below by grade level:

  • 2nd Grade: “One” by Kathryn Otoshi
  • 3rd Grade: “The Invisible Boy” by Trudy Ludwig
  • 4th Grade: “Say Something” by Peggy Moss
  • 5th Grade: “Every Kindness” by Jacqueline Woodson

7th & 8th GRADE FAMILIES

7th and 8th Grade Families,

The time has come to complete applications for the 21st Century Scholars Scholarship! This scholarship offers income-eligible students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school, dependent upon financial need. Information regarding income eligibility can be found here. All families are encouraged to apply as financial situations are subject to change due to the effects of COVID-19. Families can apply for the 21st Century Scholars Scholarship the beginning of their student’s 8th grade year until June 30 of their student’s 8th grade year. Families may complete the application by:

  1. Visiting the following website: https://www.indyachieves.org/21cs
  2. Texting the word “college” or “Universidad” to 404-58.
  3. Complete the form and send it in with your student or email it to Mrs. Carter (ervinrd@myips.org) so that she may apply on your behalf. The English version of this form may be found here. The Spanish version may be found here.
  4. Completing the application by phone with Mrs. Carter. Please feel free to email Mrs. Carter at ervinrd@myips.org in order to schedule a time to complete the application.

For more about this program, please visit https://learnmoreindiana.org/scholars/. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Carter at ervinrd@myips.org or 317-226-4259.

8th Grade Families

Over the last week and a half, 8th grade students learned about career clusters and all of the employability skills (found here) that Indiana employers are requiring for future employees. Students also had the opportunity to explore the JA JobSpark student website (found here) and learn about the companies that will be represented at JA JobSpark as well as the careers each company has to offer. Ask your student about the career clusters they were placed in and how they can create a career plan to accomplish their goal!
