Message from the Principals Message from the Principals

Hello Families,

Our first Try it Tuesday was a big success. Many students enjoyed the pears provided by by food services and served by our Student Council members. We enjoy partnering with our food services department to bring this opportunity to try new and healthy foods to our students.

We held our monthly Walk to School Day on November 14th. This will likely be the last one until the weather warms up once again.

We look forward to seeing many of you on Wednesday November 20th for conferences and appreciate the interest you take in your child's school experience. When you are in the building, check out our lost and found which will be displayed in the main lobby. Please be advised that items will be donated on Friday, December 20th!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Respectfully,

Terri and Jayson =)

Reminders and Updates Reminders and Updates

Colder Temperatures: As the winter months approach us, please be sure your child comes to school dressed appropriately for outdoor recess (ie. jackets/sweatshirts, etc).

Snacks: Please remember to send your child in with a snack. The school has a very limited supply that gets depleted quickly and it is not to every students liking.

Dear South Row Families,

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month!

Knowing the signs of type I diabetes can save a child’s life! If your child exhibits these symptoms, reach out to their pediatrician for advice.

  • Frequent urination

  • Increased thirst

  • Bed-wetting in children who previously didn't wet the bed during the night

  • Extreme hunger

  • Unintended weight loss

  • Irritability and other mood changes

  • Fatigue and weakness

  • Blurred vision

People who have type 1 diabetes can’t use glucose (the body’s main type of sugar) for energy. That’s because their body stopped making the hormone insulin. Normally, after we eat, the amount of glucose in the blood (blood sugar) goes up. When it does, the pancreas sends insulin into the blood. Insulin works like a key that opens the doors of the body’s cells to let the glucose in, giving the cells the energy they need.

In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas doesn’t make insulin. Without insulin, glucose can't get into the cells. It stays in the blood, which leads to high blood sugar. Having too much sugar in the blood isn’t healthy and can cause problems.

You also can learn more about type 1 diabetes online:

  • The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF)

  • CDC: Type 1 Diabetes
