Message From The Principal Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope all families enjoyed a restful break and are feeling refreshed for the busy and exciting term ahead. A special welcome back to Fr Stan following his well earned holiday in Poland. We are delighted to have him back with our school community.

Catholic Identity

This term, our Year 4 students are preparing to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. This is a significant milestone in their faith journey, and I ask you to keep these students and their families in your prayers as they prepare for this special occasion.

Next week, students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the Religious Education Assessment (REA). The REA provides valuable information about students’ understanding of Religious Education concepts and supports our ongoing improvement in this important learning area.

Stewardship

All Western Australian school students in Kindergarten to Year 12, with a valid student number, are eligible for this cost-of-living payment. You can claim $150 for each student attending primary school or Kindergarten.

The payment will be available through the ServiceWA app, with parents and carers encouraged to set up or update their ServiceWA account and have an active Digital ID. Claims open on Monday 20th July 2026. All claims must be received by Friday 25th September 2026.

Student numbers can be found on your St Luke's Seqta Engage account under Reports --> SCSA Number. Please refer to the Seesaw message sent out on 25th June for instructions on logging in to Seqta Engage.

Uniforms

Over recent weeks, we have placed a strong focus on student uniform standards. It has been pleasing to see the support of both students and parents in maintaining pride in our school presentation. Consistent adherence to our uniform expectations reflects the high standards we hold as a community and contributes positively to our school culture. For families who are unsure of any requirements, please refer to our Uniform Policy available on the school website.

Character Strengths

Over the past two weeks, our Character Strength focus has been Gratitude. In a world that often moves at a fast pace, taking time to recognise and appreciate the good things in our lives is an important habit to develop. As families gather around the dinner table this week, I encourage you to ask each family member to share something they are grateful for. These simple conversations can help strengthen relationships and foster a positive outlook.

School Reports

I am aware that some families have sought clarification regarding the A–E grades on Semester 1 reports. Under School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements, grades reflect a student’s achievement against year-level standards. A common misconception is that only A and B grades represent success. In fact, a C grade indicates that a student is achieving at the expected standard for their year level, which is an important and positive outcome. The purpose of reporting is to communicate how a student's achievement aligns with curriculum expectations at that point in time.

Grades should be considered alongside teacher comments, effort ratings, work samples, assessment results and the individual learning journey of each child. A student's growth, perseverance and developing confidence remain important indicators of progress that may not always be reflected by a change in grade alone.

Following analysis of both Semester 1 reports and NAPLAN data, our Leadership Team found a strong correlation between teacher judgments and student achievement levels demonstrated in NAPLAN. This provides confidence that grades awarded accurately reflect student performance against expected standards. I would like to congratulate our teachers on their professionalism, consistency, and due diligence in assessment and reporting practices.

Child Safety

A friendly reminder to all parents and visitors that if you are coming onto school grounds during school hours, you must sign in at the Front Office. This procedure is an important child safety requirement and helps us ensure we know who is on the school site at all times. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for all students and staff.

Community

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our P&F Quiz Night Subcommittee. The event at the end of last term was a tremendous success and was made possible through the dedication, hard work, and generosity of a committed group of volunteers. We are incredibly grateful for all they do to support our school community and for providing such a wonderful opportunity for parents to come together in a fun and enjoyable social setting.

As we move through Term 3, there is much to look forward to and to celebrate. Thank you for your continued partnership in making St Luke’s such a vibrant and supportive community where we continue to learn, love and serve together.

Warm regards,

Kerry Hewitson

Principal

Term 3- Mark Your Calendars!

With Term 3 now underway, our school calendar is quickly filling with important learning opportunities and community events. To stay organised during this busy stretch, please take a moment to review the school calendar and mark important events in your diaries. Keeping these key events marked ensures families remain informed and ready for the weeks ahead.

NAPLAN

We recently received our NAPLAN results, and there is much to celebrate. Across all four assessed areas—Reading, Writing, Numeracy, and Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation)—The average for Year 3 & 5 students at St Luke’s Catholic Primary School was above the national average. These results reflect the dedication of our students, staff, and families working together to support learning and growth. NAPLAN reports will go home today to students in Years 3 & 5. If you have any questions regarding your child’s report, please contact their classroom teacher.

Sending Your Child To School Sick

We kindly ask all families to help us keep our school community healthy by ensuring children who are unwell remain at home until they are well enough to participate fully in their school day.

From time to time, children are sent to school after being given medication to reduce symptoms such as fever, pain, or discomfort. While this may help temporarily, the effect of the medication wears off between 4-6 hrs during the school day, leaving children feeling unwell and unable to learn comfortably. If your child requires medication to alleviate symptoms prior to attending school, we ask families to carefully consider whether they’re well enough to participate fully in the school day. Additional rest and recovery at home may be in the child's best interests and support a quicker return to full health.

Children who become unwell at school may need to spend an extended period of time in the sick bay while awaiting collection. For a child who is already feeling unwell, this can be both uncomfortable and upsetting.

We understand that balancing work and family commitments can be difficult, however keeping unwell children at home helps to:

  • Support their recovery and wellbeing.
  • Reduce the spread of illness to other students, families and staff.
  • Ensure children are ready and able to participate in learning.
  • Prevent unnecessary discomfort while waiting to be collected from school.

Thank you for your support and cooperation in helping us provide a safe, healthy, and caring environment for all members of our school community.
