METCO Newsletter
Bedford METCO | November 2025 | Week 11/24
Dear Bedford METCO Families,
As we move into a short week leading up to the Thanksgiving break, we want to remind all families that Wednesday will be an actual half day for all Bedford Public Schools. Please be sure to follow the half-day schedule, not the 3/4-day schedule, when planning your child’s dismissal.
As many of you know, our community is grieving the loss of a child over the weekend. While the district has shared information and resources, we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family. Counselors and therapy dogs will be available in the district to support our middle school and elementary students during this difficult time.
Moments like these remind us how important it is to hold our loved ones a little tighter, to check in on one another, and to never miss the chance to show and tell the people in our lives that we love them.
From our METCO family to yours, we wish you a peaceful and comforting Thanksgiving filled with rest, connection, and gratitude.
Attached you will also find the Late Bus Schedule for your reference.

Thank you to all the volunteers and to BEST-PTO for co-sponsoring and Davis school for hosting.

METCO's Pathways & Job Fair
December 12, 2025 from 5 to 8 pm
Vine Street Community Center
339 Dudley Street, Boston, MA 02119
We are excited to share that METCO, Inc. has partnered with Reading Memorial High School’s Kadi Buckley (Assistant Principal) and Tiffany Williams (a METCO parent) to host a Pathways & Job Fair for our students.
This event is designed to:
- Connect students ages 14–18 with Boston-based jobs and internships they can pursue after school or during the summer.
- Expose students to different postsecondary pathways, including workforce development, trade schools, gap year programs, study abroad, community colleges, and four-year universities.
Many of our students face challenges finding jobs and internships because they spend most of their time in their suburban school districts and often lack connections to opportunities in their own communities. This fair will help bridge that gap by bringing employers and organizations directly to them.
Location: Vine Street Community Center 339 Dudley Street Boston MA 02119
Date: Friday, December 12th, 2025 5-8pm
Event is open to both district and METCO Students
If you have any questions or concerns you can email Nia Simpson at Nsimpson@metcoinc.org or Kiara Santos at Ksantos@metcoinc.org.
The Island School Scholarship for 9th, 10th, & 11th Graders
METCO Inc and The Island School are working together to provide students and families with an information session for two FULL-tuition scholarships (valued at approximately $17,000 with a family contribution set at $500) to attend The Island School Summer Term.
The Summer Term is a 6-week program for CURRENT high school Freshman, Sophomores and Juniors to study in the island of Eleuthera, The Bahamas. Through a rigorous course of study that includes field work in local ecosystems, explorations of local settlements and the socioeconomic impacts of development, and dynamic interaction living on a sustainable campus, Summer Term students grapple with how communities – on an island in The Bahamas and beyond – can live most sustainably. The Summer Term curriculum invites students to think about the resources upon which we rely.
If you missed the first in person information session, please join us virtually on Thursday, November 20th from 5-6pm at METCO Inc. (11 Roxbury St. Roxbury, MA 02129).
