A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Family,
I was just kidding last week, THIS will be our last newsletter before the break. I think I was still on Massachusetts time!
Enjoy the school break, we will miss the kiddos but we will be back before we know it to enjoy our last couple of months until summer vacation.
I did FINALLY finish my doctoral program and I want to thank you ALL for sending such incredible children to school each day, allowing me to have enough brain space to multi-task for the past three years. I know for a FACT that in any other district this may not have been possible.
Thank you for your support, as always!
Michelle

Cafeteria Feedback
We would love to hear your feedback about the cafeteria. PLEASE fill out this survey if your child has or does order lunch in the RES cafeteria. We really do want to hear your insights so we can ensure our students have the best lunch experience!
Quick Notes
- PLEASE remember to email resoffice@sau50.org if you have any information about absences, late arrivals or early dismissals. We have had instances of either Staci or Shari being out and we have missed emails! This email address goes to EVERYONE in the office!
- PLEASE do not allow children to get out to the car at drop off without an adult. We understand that families have thoughts about our drop off and pick up and we are always open to new ideas if you want to send them my way but what we DO know is we do not like students walking near moving cars. THANK YOU!
The Leadership Survey Wonderings Answered (little by little)
Assemblies
In the leadership survey, there was varying feedback about our celebration assemblies. I wanted to provide some context and ask for any FURTHER FEEDBACK you may have on these events. We are trying our best to find ways to consolidate the material, working on transitioning the children more efficiently, etc to ensure we are fitting within a 30-45 minute time frame.
The timing was a question and I wanted to address that specifically. Building a school schedule is quite a feat. Having one designated day and time for assemblies is how I ensure that students are not missing another content area or Unified Arts class. I know this is a challenge once a month for many and please know that NEXT YEAR, I am going to try and be more specific about certain grades that may be performing well in advance so you can plan accordingly!
Learning Resource Highlight: Screen Time Balance at RES
At our school, we believe in a healthy balance when it comes to screen time. While technology can be an amazing tool to enhance student learning experiences, we also have intentionally set some school rules that technology is not allowed during recess or quiet time, so students can get a break, and be active. We also limit and monitor how much time students spend on adaptive learning tools each week within the classroom. Together, we look at ways for students to use technology to reflect on knowledge learned, collaboration with classmates and the community, and creating portfolios to share best work!

Lunch in Our Caf
We invite one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend. This is an occasional event as we do want children to build independence and social skills in the cafeteria, a perfect time for this!
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Days for family visits are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We do not have lunch visitors on Fridays.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:10-12:35
Second Grade-12:10-12:35
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
Spotlight: RJH Visits PreK and K
The RJH 7/8th grade sewing class worked collaboratively with the RES PreK and K classes
to create stuffed monsters! The RES students could color their monster in any way they wanted and had 3 questions to answer: What was their name, the name of their monster, and one thing their monster likes to do. RJH said..."Props to RES- because they pulled this off in two days!"
Leslie Bayse, the art teacher from RJH, picked up the designs from RES and the RJH students had an "adoption day" in sewing class where students chose the monster they wanted to recreate. Around the room students chose the fabric, buttons, ribbons, sequins, embroidery thread and bits and pieces of other random doodads to help them design their monster. Several of the kids even gave up their lunch recess to sew more than one monster! When they were finished, they each filled out a sheet of their own with their name and a little secret that the monster told them and stapled that to the original drawing.
Lastly, the RJH students CAME TO RES and hand delivered the monsters!!!! We love these activities that bridge RES and RJH.
