A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear PES community!
Phew - it has been a busy week at PES! Thank you to our PTA and families for all the special treats throughout the week to celebrate our staff. We have an amazing team at PES and were delighted to celebrate their hard work this year.
đChewonki visits!
Chewonki educators visited PES classrooms on Tuesday. Students in grades Pre-K, K and 1st, 2nd and 5th, experienced the tide pools presentation, learning about the creatures that inhabit the tide pools around Maine. Students in third grade learned about amazing animal adaptations - they even got to meet a hedgehog. The fourth grade students experienced the fins and flippers presentation, where they learned about identifying species of mammals and put together a live skeleton of a humpback whale. Chewonki presentations were brought to Phippsburg School through a generous donation from the Phippsburg Land Trust.
đExpeditionary Learning at PES!
Students have begun their expeditionary learning projects at PES. We kicked off our event with five stations of learning: a predator and prey game, puzzles and books, videos and pictures, painting, and artifacts exploration. At each station, we asked students to think about what they noticed and wondered about, recording their thoughts on chart paper. In classrooms, students are diving into their focus areas and thinking about how they will bring light to problems affecting our marine sea life and industries in Phippsburg, Maine. We hope you can join us on June 13th at 2:00 in the classrooms, for a celebration of learning.
âFourth Grade Learning!
Fourth graders have been busy this week at school. On Tuesday, they traveled to the clam flats at Hermit Island to help local clam digger David Grey reseed the clam beds. Students learned about the importance of conservation efforts aimed at helping create sustainability of the clamming industry for generations to come. On Wednesday, Ed Friedman joined the class to teach students about Merrymeeting Bay, our unique water system that is home to a variety of plants and animals. Fourth graders will travel to Bay Day on May 13th.
Donât forget to visit our website and facebook page for updates and pictures from learning events at PES. Thank you for all you do!
Warm regards,
Nina Willette, Principal
